Hi all!
I'm on my 4th set of tires with my Stinger and one thing has always been constant. The rear tires wear out way before the fronts and the wear is primarily happening on the center of the tire.
Do you guys also experience this?
So far I've been keeping very true to the recommended pressure which is 2.5bar / 36psi on all 4 wheels.
I'm now thinking to slightly reduce the rear tire pressure to try and increase tire life. Have you tried something like this? Can it have any impact on the long run? Or am I just adding some slight understeer for nothing?
I have a RWD 2.0 GT Line with the 19" staggered set.

I would try 36 front and 34 rear and see how that goes. Also, are you taking your pressures from your cars TPS or from an accurate gauge?

I found the TPS to be very accurate. I usually change the pressure at the self service machines in gas stations. The digital ones. They always show the same as the TPS.
I will try the lower rear pressure but also curious if you guys experience the same type of wear with the standard pressures.

Yep i got centre wear on 2 sets of rears. But i was running 40psi. I run 37 but im now on Bridgestone Potenzas. It might worth your while going to a harder compound tyre like Yokohama, the ride will be harsher though but you could reduce the Psi.

Over four years and three sets of tires (soon to be four sets on the rear), I've had outer edge wear. The first alignment was just done c. a month ago, and rear toe had to be corrected quite a bit: they said nothing about the front being out: the edge wear in the rear had shifted to the inside edge, so, I'm guessing the toe had moved since the previous set of rear tires had worn the outer edge first. During the life of the previous set of tires, I conducted an experiment of running higher psi to see if center tread wear would result: nope. Must be my driving up to "tire singing speed" on the cloverleafs and other twisty bits.

To the OP, what specific tires and sizes (F/R) are you running?

Define standard? All tires are round.

I'm running the tires in my sig on a 2.5T, 35.5F, 37.5R, ~6500 miles now. Can't say I notice any wear indicative of over inflation. Do you rotate every 5Kmiles or so?

how many miles/km are you getting out of a set? what tires are you running
yes, rears will wear faster than the fronts .. .almost a 2:1 ratio even with awd fyi,
I have not experienced center wear on my rears , about 21k miles ~33k kms on them and little past half way worn.
I run about 35psi rear cold, (heats up to around 37-38 after driving highway speeds for 30+min) fronts are 38psi cold (awd v6 gets higher front pressures)

That's cool. I just prefer to use an known accurate gauge. When I took my car out on the track some time ago the temps got pretty high and the TPMS wasn't reading correctly so I've gone back to trusting the gauge as a default.

With that said, I'm not running on the OEM wheels and rubber.

But definitely try running the rears lower ( even 32psi ) and see how it wears. Can't hurt.

You run higher pressures in the rears than the fronts ?

Also, just out of curiosity, what is LGB FJB ? ( in your sig ).

Yes, the manual calls for 36/39 F/R but that's for stock size/load index.

You still haven't shared which specific tires are in question.

@JSolo Sorry, misread that.
It came with Conti SportContact 5. Then I switched to Nokian Powerproof and now I'm on Michelin Pilot Sport 4.
I also ran Pirelli Sottozero 3 for winter.
I got about 40k km out of one set. That's about 24k miles.
Most of my driving is highway cruising at 87 mph.

Centre wear on your tyres means over inflation, reduce your pressures by 2psi & monitor, get a good quality gauge to accurately check pressures.

PS4 225/40/19 has a load rating of 93
PS4 255/35/19 has a load rating of 96

Both sufficient for the car (4 cyl). My guess is your gauge is off. Also, the psi spec is intended for a cold tire, not one driven on. Even so, if you're setting it to 36 for a hot tire that would be even less for a cold (32/33 psi).

How significant is the center wear? Something a pic would capture?

24K miles out of a PS4 is great mileage. Michelin warrants it for 20K, or 10K for staggered.

I opted to go with the AS4's as there's no place around here (PRIL) to really enjoy any real corners. The AS4's are probably 80-85% (more?) of the PS4's performance on the street.

Note, all pertinent information should be included initially and not need to be pried out.

OK so I just looked at my tire pressure placard for the first time and I'm shocked! ( In all my years of having cars, I have never followed a tire pressure placard  )

I'm actually shocked and confused by the recommended pressures.

I've just always gone by temperature and the driving I'll be doing ( for the tires I have ), and I've always had perfectly even wear on every set of tires.

Oh, and I googled what LGB FJB means... It's nothing like what I thought... I say bring back Trump ( ducks down waiting for $hit to start flying ):rofl::rofl:

I'm Canadian and I get the reference. Lol

Let's go Brandon.
Lol, in Canada you're a neighbour and you share the same slab of land so I'm not surprised you get it.

I'm on an island on the other side of the world and I don't hear much about what goes on over there. All I ever get exposed to are the voices of those who hate who ever the current president is....

Anyway, back to tires...

I always have my pressures slightly on the low side to account for temperature rises ( for whatever reason ) and if I see outer wear, I up the pressure by 2psi then monitor.

Again, I'm confused as to why the placard recommends the rears run higher than the fronts..... Makes no sense to me.
