I guess at the moment I am a lurker, currently looking at Novating a Stinger GT. My wife and I have already test driven it and well I didn't get much of a look in cause my wife hogged it. lol I think she has already bought one in her mind. lol

I do have a question of those that may own a Stinger GT and live in a hot climate, have you had any trouble with the turbo system due to high ambient temps?

We currently own a Toyota Landcruiser Prado 120 series and I have already done a turbo due to high ambient temps. Where we live we are still getting +43C temps during the day and it is supposedly Autumn.

For those that have owned their Stinger for a while how has the paintwork held up? We owned a top of the line Kia Cerato hatch and I rated the paintwork as pretty poor to be honest. I know that the blue and yellow Stingers had initial paint problems which have been rectified but we are looking to a red or white one.

I am also concerned at the small fuel tank capacity, 60 litres seems inadequate for such beast. We have to travel vast outback distances to get to civilisation, once we leave Alice Springs it is 1500kms of open road to get to the next regional town of Port Augusta in South Australia. For those in Australia what octane level do you use and if you use 98 do you notice greater kms/ltr?

I guess I will be hearing shortly on the outcome of our novated lease so possibly we will be true owners soon.

Cheers

Mav

Welcome. No "outback" here, though we do have some long distances between petrol stations out west. It's not a problem.

Paint is not a common issue with any color other than Yellow, and even those were well under fifty percent affected. I'd say you have a good high ninety percent probability of no paint troubles at all (unless you're one hundred percent one of the unlucky ones!:P) My paint is fine after a year.

Welcome Mav. Can only speak from a hot summer in Sydney but I'm not aware of any heat related turbo issues. Supposedly Kia tweaked the Stinger to suit Aussie conditions so hopefully that included Central Australia.
No issues with paint on my SWP but then I don't drive on outback roads avoiding debris from road trains etc. If I did, I think I'd be looking at full paint protection film or a wrap (you can get it in Pearl White) and windscreen cover included with insurance.
Yes, the fuel tank is relatively small for a vehicle that size so you can expect regular refills. After 9000km my overall usage is12.3lt/100km - mostly short city trips but a but of good highway runs as well. Have only used 95 grade fuel but others run 95 and also 91 unleaded and I don't think there's much of a difference in performance.
I think it would make a great highway where you are but I'd be worried about premature wear and tear due to your local conditions.

Welcome @Maverick , to our stingerforum, I have owned my Deep Chroma Blue StingerGT for over a year, and so far have no issues with the paintwork, the only thing that kind of has me worried is the intensity of the heat from the engine compartment, even after a fairly short drive, and when the temperature on the day is not hot, never owned a car that generates so much heat , maybe Kia should have made a bonnet scoop that is functional, with the opening front facing that funnels cool air into the engine compartment, and an outlet scoop for hot air to escape, anyway that's my experience so far.

G’day Maverick, welcome to the forums. Same as the other boys, I’m not having any heat related mechanical or paint trouble. The ventilated seats are getting a helluva workout though, I reckon they’ll fail before the turbos. :) I mustn’t cane mine as much as Shannon does though because I’m getting about 10L/100km combined highway and city. Shannon has been known to carry a lot of weight in his boot though so that might account for the difference in fuel economy:whistle:

Thanks guys for the responses, as we have a 130km/hr speed limit here we would be doing that for extended driving periods. Gone are the open speed limits of old when we used to sit on the 190+ on the highway but then back then I had a company car with free fuel. lol

If this goes ahead I think my wife wants the Pearl White with red leather interior. I prefer the red with black leather interior. :) I wish they brought out the AWD with coffee colour interior here, we would be all over that puppy. :)

I was surprised that the bonnet vents were just show ponies, I wonder if they could be replaced with real vents at some point?

Oh a quick question regarding the TPMS in the GT. How do you access the information screen, I searched for it on the multimedia display but could not see any reference to the TPMS system. The sales guy was less than helpful, I was telling him about the cars features not the other way round. lol

It’s on the steering wheel. See the top button that looks like pages of a book? That’s your mode button which toggles between speed, compass, TPMS, oil temps etc. Keep hitting it until your tyre pressures display. You have to have been driving for a couple of minutes before they will display.

Thanks for the info I really appreciate it, the sales guy couldn't tell me anything.

Probably not a lot of Stingers sold in Alice.

There are only a couple of them here. One was a yellow one that had the paint problem, Kia trucked it down to Adelaide and had it repainted. They also sent a GT demonstrator up to the guy here to use whilst his was being painted. It was that car we test drove on Monday.

G'day mate! have not had any problems in hot and humid Florida weather. The car is fantastic I keep raping Ford mustangs all day. Welcome to the forum.

The hype claims testing in Death Valley. I think Kia worked out turbo performance and reliability in hot conditions. :D
