Regardless of this particular dealer, this IS the Information Age - period.
Any dealer that is not engaging with that truth is going to lose or is already doing so.
I dealt with Mazda dealers in 2014. Only a scant few would not provide a quote and dialog via email with me. Most would.
NOTE: It was NOT JUST emails, it was a mix-n-match with a few calls and initially visiting the dealer. It came down to two dealers: One was more responsive to me and very willing to be clear on pricing. Ironically, they were the only dealer to have a 2014 Mazda6 Touring /w Tech Package w/two tone interior in the entire PacNW at the time. Their quote was $450 less WITH the sticker charging $300 more for this red (because Mazda can, because it’s a sweet color!) than any other bid.
I didn’t pay one dime more than what we laid out in our final email.
Mazda of Gladstone Portland, OR plug...
Was a GREAT experience!
My $.02 worth is call or stop by 3-4 dealers. Get a sense in how they work. When serious give them your contact info and shift to the financial numbers via emails. If one or two won’t do it, drop them and work with the last few that will, and get to where it works for you.
My goal is that going to the dealership is nothing but a mere formality. I’m just there to fill out the paperwork and to pick up the car, nothing more. That is exactly how it worked in ouchasing my Mazda6.
Oh, and print and bring your agreed to email thread with you... but if you need to pull it out because things are going sideways, I suggest it’s time to leave ASAP.
This digital world can really help dealer and buyer if done right.
I’m on two Stinger forums right now. Pretty highly engaged. Wouldn’t a dealer want me to puchase from them and share my awesome experience around? How up front an honest they were? What a great price I got and that everyone nearby I recommend they go buy their next car from these people?...
I should think so!
The only pause here would be with Kia dealers not really working towards Kia’s MSO (Marketing Sales Objective) stair-step programs, which provide the dealer a nice “bonus” check if they reach the target sales volumes. If dealers aren’t engaging that we’ll with the program, then they are likely to be more focused, and finding better success in making margin on each car sold vs selling volumes at low prices.
It is those dealers who would tend to be more upset about pricing shares, etc... as they want to milk each sale in as big a way as possible, vs selling (at times at dealer cost - different than in piece mind you), to make it up at the end of the month with a nice bumper check from Kia.
