Media Presentation

Press drive

They only spoke about a I6 Diesel, nothing on the 2.5T or 3.5T that I recall being mentioned.
Detailed walk around, in Korean but you get to see the vehicle details better here:

Nice tech features but that steering though... :(
Exterior seems decent. I see a little mix of everything. I personally think tally/pally was done better.

From a true 7 seater perspective, yes. However, after seeing it and knowing that it has the 80 designation, It is an X5 competitor, much like the G80 is a 5 series competitor. The GV70 will be released next and I suspect a GV90 will come at some point. Somewhere in the presentation, they showed a photo of a number of vehicles in the dark, with just the headlights and their silhouette. There will be more to come in the future from Genesis, can’t wait to see them!

Now that they have chosen to release the vehicle to the press, more questions still linger about the 2.5T and 3.5T engines. I wonder if they will be ready by the time they have vehicles for the press to drive or at the very least, by the time they put them on sale. That straight 6 diesel seems to do the job well enough and for Korea where they use diesels in their luxury vehicles, it should still sell. I was a bit disappointed to see Biermann giving his presentation, without speaking about the performance aspect of the vehicle. I know they want to make sure things are perfect for the vehicle, prior to its release and it seems the petrol powered versions are probably not there yet.

Found a tech video, that infotainment screen is done right, not a lot of bezel and more display space. 14.5 inches is what I thought they said it is, would be too much for the Stinger but, they could do a better 12" screen with thin bezels. I think that would look good in the Stinger.

The styling is for retired folks

Lol! Come on man, you making me feel old! Even though I’m right around the corner from that. Wasn’t a fan of it from the spy shots but now seeing it completely without camouflage, it look really nice. I watched a couple other Korean videos and they have it in 5 passenger configuration as well. I hope they don’t bring that 7 seater here, the 3rd takes away from the cargo space. They need a GV90, like the Palisades’ size for it to compete with the XC90.

Exterior is nice, not really my taste but nice.
Interior feels like they benchmarked a 10 years old BMW and added diamond stiched leather everywhere.
Nobody makes this kind of iPad style infotainment in this vehicle class anymore. For a brand new car its a fail to innovate.

BTW I have already seen the car with my own eyes this morning.

FYI, BMW still uses stick-on ipad styling for their screens in both SUVs and cars.

The GV80 looks fine to me. I don't expect anything too innovative or aggressive from Hyundai in the styling of their Genesis vehicles. They're trying to chip away at the sales of the more popular German/Japan rivals so they need the vehicles to have mass appeal. Now isn't their time to make polarizing vehicles.

I dig it. Jb4 on the 3.5 should be good for 470ish hp, 500+ torque. Sound like a great family option to me. I really like the matte green color.

Remote start parking assist--DAYUM!! In no time flat, we'll all forget how to park our own vehicles.

Come to think of it, having seen some people's recent feeble attempts at backing into a parking space, I think it's all ready too late!!

The exterior is okay. After seeing the Palisade and Telluride I was expecting more. Especially since its Genesis.
Features and tech, there is no denying that it packs a whole lot. I really want see that AR Navigation in action.

If they put the 3.5TT in it I think it will be a great seller.

Love the tech and hope it all trickles throughout the lineup. This makes me raise an eyebrow though and ask WHY; what's the point of a counterclockwise tach....

The interior looks more elegant than a BMW and more like a Bentley, in my opinion. The stitched diamond pattern are usually found on higher end vehicles and it certainly looks good here. Most vehicles are doing wide screen infotainment these days, I can't agree with the iPad statement, look at what Tesla has in their vehicles, those are iPad++++, lol! The vehicle has a lot of road presence, in spy photos, it looked like it was going to be an XC90 sized vehicle but, turns out it is more mid-sized than large vehicle class. Wasn't a fan of the huge grill in photos but man, seeing it now, it looks real food on the car. I'm hoping they have a performance version in the works as well.

This version does 0-100km/h in a bit under 8 seconds. Definitely not a performer.

Yeah, I noticed they launched with one engine, an inline 6 diesel at 3.0 liters. Seems more for economy than sport. Any word on when the 3.5T and 2.5T will get launched? By the way, what's the on sale date over there?

Very soon. Preorders have been received since months ago.

The gasoline models should be released during first half of the year.

The more of these videos I watch, the more I get to see of the vehicle and how Luc's design style from his work at Bentley, has been applied to the GV80. I know folks like to say the Korean are copying other brands however, the designs are done by people and when those folks go elsewhere, it is likely their deign language will show in products they design for another manufacturer. Hyundai did a good job in hiring folks with high end luxury vehicle design and engineering to help them put forth some eye catching, beautifully designed and engineered vehicles. I can only see things getting better for them from here.

Since you're in Korea, you should sneak some pictures of the new 2.5 and 3.5 engines when they start showing up at dealerships and show us.... :geek:

Any prices announced?
