I've seen a few threads on this here and there.

After digging into the AWD GTS and its unique features over the last year or to, everything I've found online indicates the difference between the AWD GTS and a GT/GT1/GT2 AWD come down to the AWD GTS having a rear LSD and some slightly different programming of the stability control system.

This video seems to indicate its not even a difference you'll see when simply turning off traction and stability control. But something you'd only see when performing "drift moves" with the steering wheel.

Starting ~ 2 min mark give or take.

I have already setup the RWD switch as discussed here

At some point I want to add a LSD to my 2019 AWD GT1.

Happen to search ebay today found this

Rear Carrier 3.3L W/Limited Slip Different 530004J126 Fits 18-19 Kia Stinger OEM

This diff appears to be from a wrecked GTS ( insert sad panda )

They list this part number 530004J126

searching for kia part numbers for that gets me

So if that is the diff that came out of that GTS it appears its the same part number used for all the GT models (as we would likely expect)

Now that wrecked GTS doesn't appear to be a AWD model. But that link to the kia parts store lists that part number as fitting basically ALL GTS and GT models.

For me this is enough for me to be confident there isn't anything "magical" about the LSD in the AWD GTS and think that pulling out a rear diff from a AWD GT (that doesn't have an LSD) and dropping this in should work. And by work I mean not cause any problems with existing systems, if anything it will make the rear brakes work less when a rear wheel spins.

I don't have the time / money to jump on this auction now, but with that part number should be able to just order it direct from Kia if I can't find it else where down the road.

The only questions remaining would be

What does that 530004J126 part number include is it really the entire bolt in diff, short of the axles + driveshaft + fluids.
Is it really an LSD, seems so assuming the LSD and non-LSD don't share a part number..... which hopefully couldn't be the case.

I'll have to give this some more thought see if I can think of anything else I'm missing.

Hopefully this gives us a way to drop in an LSD without the need to open the diff + rebuild, something most of us probably wouldn't want to tackle ourselves. But dropping the diff and reinstalling I could do in my garage over a long saturday.

slightly off topic, but how'd the RWD switch work out for you? Does it trip any codes or make the car behave oddly?

Worked great no codes. I make sure to only turn it on or off while in park and ignition off. No codes no lights. Disabled front drive wheels as far as I can tell tested in snowy parking lot but only briefly. Heading skiing again this weekend hoping to test more.

Interested if this goes anywhere..

I hear ya there's always lots of talk. Honestly it'll be a while before I have the funds to dedicate. But I was going to write it down anyway and figured sharing it while Im at it couldn't hurt.

Just FYI 2020 Stinger GT AWD"Indigo Edition" models have a similar "drift mode" system as the GTS and also have LSD. Not sure why KIA never really advertised this special edition package. Granted They don't tell you how to enter the mode for some godforsaken reason (Sport mode and hold down TCS button till both traction and stability are disabled)

Also, my understanding is the TCS and Stability control in the GTS and Indigo Edition are tuned for the LSD and don't torque vector with brakes like it would with an open rear diff.

Also, on the subject since I just posted a comment on that video of the Fuse switch, There is a bit of a fire hazard there:

Put that fuse closer to the fuse block on the hot side so it's actually protecting 10 or so extra feet of wiring you have going to you switch. General rule of thumb for doing wiring in cars is to always have a fuse within 6 inches of the power source that way is something nicks the wiring and it grounds out you don't have a fire.

Agreed when I did mine before seeing that video I have a fuse 2 maybe 3 inches from the original fuse. I have a switch in the car and a small red led that is wired to light up when it's connected ( switch on aka the fuse for awd is installed) so if my fuse tap ever gets loose I'll know, light will go off while switch is still on.

Interesting I've never heard of this before granted I haven't ever looked at the 2020 2021 models

They only made 500 of those for America, possibly less. Had to do a bit of searching to get the one I have.

Side note: Kinda funny that the forum defines LSD twice.

Ours just kinda fell into our hands! I really wanted just a base gt rwd since i wanted the limited slip diff but not the electronic shifter, While searching inventory, this dark blue one showed up that I had only heard about as the "atlantica" version but it didn't have all the gt2 bits. Saw that it said mechanical lsd with awd so doing some research on it found out it was basically the gts special edition but for 2020. Loved the color, and the brown interior (looks better in person than pics) AWD, LSD, RWD mode(drift mode) I was sold! best of both worlds!! awd for slick conditions and consistency in launching and the ability to hoon in rwd if the opportunity arises!!

I'd say that swapping in an lsd into the regular awd should be pretty straight forward since it's actually going to prevent traction control from intervening as often since the rears will be spinning/breaking loose together more consistently.

Thats awesome! When I bought my 2019 AWD GT1 I called / visited over 10 Kia dealers on the mid east coast of the US. Not 1 could give me any info about the GTS :(

I even went as far as reaching out to Kia North America directly showing all my cards and telling them I wanted a GTS and was ready to "write the check". 3 months after I caved and bought my GT1 they finally called me with the generic "Thank you for your interest in a Kia, we'd be happy to connect you to a local dealer".

Congrats on getting your hands on that beauty most of us have probably never even heard of :)

Has anyone put an LSD in an AWD GT1 or GT2 yet?
