Interesting the SS weighs less, has more hp/torque, but performance numbers are virtually identical:

That's all down to having 2 more gears. We've come a long way from the 4-speed automatics that were commonplace and gave 6-speed manuals the advantage... Now with 8-speed autos, 6-speed manuals are sometimes (in fact, quite often!) slower. Moving into 10-speed autos is weird, though... That's just too many gearshifts getting to grocery getting speed, lol

Stinger has peak torque starting at 1300 prm and 8 speed transmission makes all the difference.

SS is not a bad car. I just bristled at paying almost as much for one with 30-40K miles and out of warranty than for my new GT1 AWD - even though I rarely NEED it, I like AWD. Spinning tires isn't my thing.

They still want $35K for anything with less than 30-40K miles. They were selling them new for $37.5K 3 years ago. Plus, parts is a concern. Limited run, and they're not making any more. Add a tune to the Stinger, and pretty much any SS will lose unless you add a supercharger.

I'm sure that's part of it, but when I originally posted I noticed Stinger's peak torque came in at 1300 rpm and forgot to mention it's potential effect.

Shows how much difference torque placement makes in cars that C&D (where I retrieved the data) officially weighed in at exactly 73 lbs difference.

After racing Stangs for decades, RWD can be fun but it's definitely inconsistent as heck with anything less than specialized tires.

Not to mention that AWD is definitively the way to go for those in the snow belt.

Regarding price, I checked Autotrader and there's 3 used SS's within 100 miles and they're all ~40k.

I think the rumors that the Stinger's power is underrated has a lot to do with the way it competes.

It isn’t a rumor anymore since multiple dynos have proven stock Stingers run closer to ~400hp/470tq at the crank.

The huge low end torque advantage and 8gears easily offsets any extra weight vs the SS and many other high performance cars. That’s why we can easily compete with many cars that look better on paper. Im talking to you SRTs, 5.0s & SS’s!!!
