A hoy hoy,

So I've been a diesel technician for a good while now. I'm still familiar with most things on a gasoline engine. However, learning about EGR systems, DPF, SCR's, DEF, etc, it kinda...overwrote my knowledge regarding gasser exhausts. I'm assuming most of this so any of you smart fellas feel free to educate/correct me.

I'm assuming the start of said system would be the manifolds or headers. After such is a downpipe of sorts that trails down to under the car. From that point until the cats....yeah I dunno. I know most aftermarket exhaust systems are cat backs, so cat converter up to the headers is stock. I've heard mentions of resonators, but aren't those just for sound dampening?

I'm mostly asking these questions because after my BMS starter kit I'm going exhaust and sway bars with a diff brace kit. I've heard a lot regarding said systems, but the forums seem generally torn between brands. I know of the following systems to include Borla, Magna flow ARK and another who's name escapes me. I'm only interested in the performance aspect, not so much the sound. I have no use for that horrid popcorn tune, and I have a two year old who doesn't like loud bass like music (he makes turbo noises though, totes adorbs).

Any input on said topic I'd appreciate. I have browsed the sticky on exhausts briefly, so if I missed anything feel free to let me know.

Danke,

Mo

If you have two year old, you are probably better off leaving stock exhaust in place. Most aftermarket systems will leave you with drone.

Sadly I figured that may be an issue. Is there a solution for this? Maybe just a partial system or exhaust tips?

Install some blow off valves or open intake. Will add some sound drama without a drone:cool:

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Stinger exhaust goes like this:
Primary Cats -> secondary cat downpipes -> midpipe with resonator -> axleback with mufflers

Primary Cats:
Some people add performance primary cat deletes or high flow primaries but theyre a total bitch to get at and have been known to cause overboost issues sending people into limp mode so I'd avoid changing those out.

Secondary Cat Downpipes:
Lots of people have upgraded these, companies like ARK Performance and DCSports make downpipes that are bigger in diameter and delete the secondary cat. I have the ARK downpipes and I found them to increase performance and all a little extra volume to the oem exhaust sound.

Midpipe w/ Resonater:
A few companies sell higher flow midpipes such as Tork Motorsports that have the resonator deleted but for the most part this section of the exhaust is included in all aftermarket "catback" exhausts. Tons of options out there for aftermarket exhaust, a popular one because of it's price and sound is MBRP.

Axleback with Mufflers:
Some guys just run a bolt on straight pipe for this section that deletes the oem mufflers and call it a day, it sounds pretty good, but really loud and tons of drone. I used to run a totally stock exhaust with Delta muffler axleback from Tork Motorsports but got rid of it because it didnt sound that great to me and had a bit of drone. Every aftermarket catback will include this section. Depending on your budget you can even get valved catback exhausts, but theyre pretty pricey. Tons of options out there, I'd suggest surfing youtube, lots of guys and companies post sound clips of each exhaust.

Exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you sir, I'll examine this more closely after the chosen one has finished his spaghetti o's

We can definitely help you with some different options, as we have a ton available.

I would also like to recommend looking into an EVC exhaust system. (Electronic Valve Control)

We have a few different versions available on our site, and it allows you to open & close the valves as you please.

That way you don't have to live with drone or a loud exhaust when you are not interested in hearing it.

Check out our site and let us know if you have any questions or need recommendations.

Some have had issues with oil burning after changing the catless primaries+catless secondaries. Supposedly the theory is that without the backpressure, the turbo seals leak oil.

Happy with my Axle Back

All due respect, I'm not spending upwards of three grand for an exhaust. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty, but not happening.

any idea on the power gains?
Not sure probably minimal but it does get rid of that weird crimp on the stock axle back. Also you shave a few pounds from stock.

Hey Mo, absolutely, no disrespect taken at all. When it comes to aftermarket, there are many options out there, and you definitely get what you pay for. We carry all of the cheaper alternative options from MBRP, Borla, Magnaflow, etc.. I was simply letting you know that we do carry the electronic valve control options (EVC) as well, if you wanted to have the noise when you wanted it, but not when you didn’t.

Like I mentioned, please feel free to reach out to anyone on our team if you’re interested in ordering any of the exhaust systems that we carry with a possible discount.

did the down pipes add drone to the stock exhaust?

Does adding downpipes add drone to the stock exhaust?
Maybe a little bit, since you technically are removing a set of catalytic converters which helps muffle some of that drone sound on the stock exhaust.

did the down pipes add drone to the stock exhaust?
Not really as far as I'm concerned, just a small bump is sound. I used to run thr NGM Delta catback without the ark downpipes and that gave me lots of drone but not the downpipes on their own.

I might go with the ark down pipes, for that small bump.

I was looking at the catbacks but they’re too loud for me.
