I have discovered on my Stinger that when the gas pump stops automatically when filling up. I can fit an extra gallon of gas into my car with no issues. Anyone found theirs does the same or is it just mine?

Also I have noticed when my gas gauge is at 1/4 tank. Lets say on my miles to fill up countdown when I get home its at 120 miles left to fill up. I park on a driveway incline nothing extreme just a normal driveway. When I come out in the morning for work it states now the tank is 60 miles till fill up. I know its not true, I drive 49 miles wot work and I can make it to work and only 5 miles have come off from the 60. Has anyone run into this?

Thanks for your feedback.

Some gas pump shut-offs are overly sensitive, especially the fast ones. There is a tiny hole in the end of the filler nozzle tube. As you fill the tank, the remaining air is pushed out and flows across the hole (venturi). Once the fuel reaches the hole, the venturi effect stops and the handle shuts off. If you slow down the rate of fill manually by releasing the catch and reducing the amount as you near the end of the fill, the fuel will remain below the hole until the tank is full. Filling too fast can cause "waves" in the tank which can cover the hole momentarily and shut it off prematurely. It varies with different handles and fill rates.

I suspect the difference in miles remaining is linked to the instantaneous fuel consumption rate at the time. On a cold start, fuel enrichment increases consumption rates and shows fewer miles remaining. It will probably stabilize and increase as the engine warms up, doesn't it?

The miles left to fill up are based on the amount of fuel left in your tank and driving habits. Assuming your driving habits are the same, you parking the car on an incline with a quarter tank left will definitely affect the calculation as the float will read much lower than what it is actually in there. Once you put the car on a leveled surface the read out will adjust as the gas will move and the float will indicate there is a higher level. Is not a malfunction is just a bad reading due to the incline and low fuel level.

I definitely noticed that even after the pump stops you can put a significant amount more gas in the tank... but that isn't too unusual to me. Most cars i've seen behave similarly will filling up.

The day i added my boost gauge i disconnected the negative battery terminal. I remember having 60 miles left on the tank. When i reconnected my battery it was at 90 miles on the tank. Gas didn't drain quickly after that either.
