Gas door Issue

My door to the fill pipe doesn't open when I press the button, just clicks. If I go and give the door a wiggle or somwetimes a slap, then it will open with botton activation. One time, had to open the trunk and use the emergency release to gas up. Anybody else???

This happened to me maybe three times in the last 14 months (7200 miles) of ownership. I had to tap/press on the gas door a few times for it to work. Was odd but has not occurred more than thrice.

Is the little release piston sticky? If it doesn't push in and come back out easily, a shot of silicon on it should free it up.

That's what I was thinking but had other gas fill issues so it's at dealership to figure it out. Something with gas tank venting causing pump nozzle to shut down so have to take 15 to 20 minutes to dribble gas into the tank to fill up. Hoping they can fix it all at once. plus the plastic strips on the roof that hide the sunroof mechanism have paint crazing, so they suggested replacing the micro blue strips with black, sounds OK, since it will match some black trim.

Im sure the dealer will fix this, but its an evap problem. If you turn the pump nozzle upside down it will pump just fine. Its an odd thing but it works.

Turned the pump nozzle just about every way except straight upside down, humm. The Kia service dept ran test and said all was OK but the service writer, thanks Sherry, took some cash and went to the gas station and it did the same for her so she has them looking further.

Yeah straight upside down. The problem is the vent to evap canister at the top of the fill hose gets plugged and the gas nozzle senses this as a full tank. When you flip it for some reason it doesn't kick off the same way. Its a common thing in the GTO world but our cars are out of warranty so we live with it cause it doesn't cause a problem except for the annoyance when filling up.

Sherry the service writer at Crown Kia here in St Pete is great. Turns out they contacted KIA and KIA said the problem was integral and to replace the whole gas tank and vent hoses. Had some paint crazing on the plastic strips in the roof and they are replacing them (with black ) while it waits for the gas tank and doing the recall fix and adjusting the fuel fill door so will be a few days. Can't say enough good things about Crown Kia service dept.

You'd be surprised how much the evap system messes with and how much can screw it up. Not saying OP has done this but topping of your tank after the hose clicks off will eventually cause problems on newer cars too.

I assume when the pump stops the car is full lol

Aberrations do occur. I had the pump click off at Costco and did my routine; then as I was shutting it off to go inside to shop, I saw that the range was 175 miles. Eh, what? Looked at the receipt and saw that it was for an amount less than half of what it should have been: for some reason the trigger had simply disengaged. I never top off. (they tell you not to anyway)

I mean use common sense when pumping as well lol. If you're almost empty and it only put 8 gallons in.... fill'er up. I know you're smarter than that, just not paying attention.

Yeah, not paying attention: the downside to Costco is most of the time people are lined up waiting their turn, and that is distracting.
