I live down a nicely groomed, yet quite long (3/4 mile) gravel road. I have to admit I never anticipated this.. It seems that the front wheels are collecting bits of gravel and flinging them into the intake for the front gills! Has anyone experienced this? Does a screen for this opening exist, or should I fabricate one?

Thanks much! I searched for a while, but clearly missed all appropriate keywords.

Even with the mesh you will still get fine gravel/sand in the vents. I use a leaf blower to blast it out while its dry before driving in wet weather. The mesh will help protect the side of your car from stone chips though.

Check your front bumper vents as well, they collect sand/gravel as well.

This design is definitely not intended for unpaved roads.

Yeah, this road is a bit extreme for the car, but that's the price you pay for peace and quiet...

Thanks for the tips guys.

Why not just go to a car wash?

The build up you see in the picture is after one trip down my driveway..

Agreed. It was fun at the tail end of summer. Washing a car is good exercise.
