So here in Canada the most we can usually get is 91 octane and 94 octane from Petro Canada which is apparently not great and causes issues.

For those of us up north could we just use 91 Octane with a octane booster such as STP etc....and still be safe to run the 93+ Octane tunes?

Thanks.

Anything with MMT works nicely. NOS Race, Torco, Boostane, etc.

25$ per bottle/tank is a little nuts. I was thinking like a normal booster like STP or something that's 5-8$

I used to put toluene in the tank....Wash....////copy-paste there are plnty of threads on how to mix and get high octane...go to the paint store and buy it
Buying race gas out of a pump is a very iffy proposition. The light ends of the fuel will boil off when exposed to the atmosphere. Also, contamination is a real issue and you can never be sure you are getting what you are paying for.

Only buy race gas out of sealed drums. That way you know what fuel you are really buying and it is fresh.

The upside of Toluene is it is a pure hydrocarbon. There is nothing else in it so you know exactly what you are buying. At $10/gal you are paying too much. Try a paint supply house like Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore. I don't think Jones-Blair is in Arizona. That's where I get it for $5.51/gal.

You only want to add enough Toluene or race gas to keep you out of detonation. Any additional Toluene/race gas will just be a waste of money and will actually hurt performance. I would add more when running nitrous because it will give you some safety factor.

On the street, if you have a little pinging when running pump gas you need to add only as much to stop it. Probably 5-10%. When running nitrous go to 10-20% Toluene or 25-50% race gas.

You'll have to experiment to get the right mix for your combo and pump gas quality.

it doesn't take much to stop pinging....cheaper than MMT if you know where to buy it...

if toluene stopped detonation on a 871 blower at 40% overdrive it will do a good job on these turbos

This is what mmt in gasoline boosters do to your engine
go take a look at Tork's video of him removing sparkplugs from the stinger...they look like this as he he glides over the color by saying the additives in the gas.....hmmmm......:) Wash

another .... Toluene was favored by me waaay back

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

NOS Race is normally $10/bottle. STP makes an MMT based booster also for around $8 IIRC.

I used MMT based additives ever since Torco launched their Accelerator many years back. MMT has its pros and cons, its cost effective and works plus it is easy to use, but it will definitely do what it says in the videos. If I had to, I would use MMT additives for occasional use only and would change my plugs more often, I would also never run it unless the car is completely catless. I also used Xylene/Toluene since 2001 when race fuel was hard to come by in my country, I used to mix it with marvel mystery oil or ATF to reduce its abrasiveness and it definitely worked, effectively it is like pouring race fuel in the car.

Between the two options I would use Toluene because it has less drawbacks but honestly I would rather use Methanol which I am on my Stinger. The benefits of meth other than just increasing octane makes it a much better option. It cleans and cools and lasts longer making it much easier to live with, it is also cheaper in the long run.

We recently opened an engine on a heavily modded car that had over 100k miles that used meth. The motor looked perfectly clean, throttle body, intake mani, intake valves, piston tops all looked new.

I’m in Canada and I find or gas sucks. Shell 91 gives the least amount of ping. Chevron 94 was worst, at least the tank I got. With jb4 and fuel wires I can get ping at map1. What I do now is found a place that sells E85 and I fill up a 25L jug. Even running only a 20% mix of E85 I can run map3 with zero ping. If I only have 91 tank I run map6 at 1psi over stock so I still get benifits on leaner afr. I did try a octane booster with mmt and that did stop the ping in map1 as well. E85 is the best way to go if you can find it. It costs the same as premium fuel. With a 25-30% mix I can run jb4 at map 7 and get zero ping.
