After almost a week with my GT1 AWD with the driver assistance package, here are my initial likes and dislikes:

Cons:
- Drive mode resets to Comfort when turned off. Who the hell is ever going to use "Eco" mode?!
- iPod Shuffle setting not easy to access and seems to turn off randomly.
- No space! - Comfortable, but no room to carry anything in the cabin. Been driving the truck for a year and am used to having all sorts of crap at my fingertips.
- Looking out the hatch through the rearview is like peeping through a keyhole .
- Brake vents funnel sand to the sides of the car. That will probably be better after they sweep the streets.
- The welcome feature (sound and opening mirrors) is silly and I disabled it right away. Walk through the garage with keys in your pocket and it looks like an elephant fanning itself on a hot day.

Pros:
- Speed limit icon on the dash is remarkably accurate and a good feature.
- I thought the dynamic cruise control was a useless extravagance, but I've quickly grown to like it.
- Sound quality is amazing.
- Colored accent lights are cool. I'm on violet now, but you can change according to mood or aesthetic preference.
- Engine turn-off when stopped probably doesn't save more than $5/month, but it feels like the ecologically prudent thing to do and it's quiet.
- A lot of quality for <$50K .
- Last, but not least, it is fun, fun, fun to drive! Punch it at 70 mph and it will leap ahead. Tires are planted in the turns.

I am going to get some driving gloves, not because I want to look like a douche, but to protect the wheel from my sweaty hands. Dealer said it's the first GT they've sold; people are buying the base model .

I used Eco for about 2 days, then I thought "I didn't buy this freaking thing for Eco mode"! I noticed the space thing right away as well, though I'm getting use to it after about a month of owning it. I kind of like the side mirrors opening as I walk up. Makes me feel importante! :D

I thought the same thing with the smart cruise control thing "who needs it", but then as I've been using it I see how it keeps me up with the flow of traffic and I don't have to turn it on/off as much. And yes, very fun...fun! I was just talking to a friend of mine and told him how it's just plain fun. Welcome!!

I'm wondering if this stop and go feature will reduce the starter's lifespan????(more expensive the broth than the meatloaf)

Probably, but I suspect it's not quite like a regular, wound starter or it wouldn't last a year .

Starter failure these days is almost unheard-of. They use permanent magnets and brushes are quite "deep." I've never replaced a starter on a car in my 55+ years of driving, and I tend to keep my cars for 150,000 - 200,000 miles.

Having said that, I turn the auto-start off unless I'm in very heavy traffic and long stop light waits. It's part of my start-up routine. You have to step on the brake, release parking brake, press the magic button to start, press the Start/Stop button to OFF (sometimes it stays off - not sure why or when -- more study needed on when), and then press the button on the shifter to select direction of burnout.

FYI, you dont need to disable the parking brake manually, it will auto disengage when you shift to drive.

Yeah, I know. Just part of my pre-flight checklist. I'm a pilot, too.

Elephant fanning itself LOL.

I also like violet.

My adaptive cruise when resuming from stop leaves a massive gap between myself and the vehicle in front. Can this be modified in the settings?

Only two things I don't like is reverting back to comfort mode. It should stay in the last mode it was put in. Also would like to be able to have the auto stop disabled and enable it when I want. Other than those, loving everything else about this car.

Yes, owners manual page 5/89.

That can be disabled from the menu

I couldn't find it in the menu..regular GT

I'm sorry . There's a button on the console . It has an A with a circle around it. Same as the screen icon when the engine shuts off.

Yes, you can turn it off, but next time you start the car, it defaults back to on. I would rather it default to off and push the button to turn it on.

There are several features that reset to default on startup . Maybe there's a good reason, but it's inconvenient .

My guess is because it has to default to the EPA estimates or Kia would have to downgrade the claims.

That's a good theory .I was thinking maybe it's just to clear the memory and increase the likelihood of a clean system boot.

I just hate the brake vents, they get filled up with pebbles and sand from winter(Edmonton weather), wish there was like a mash like grill there. Going to add some 3M there. I use eco mode but sport is where it’s at.
