Assuming that you actually enjoy cleaning your car by hand, what is your favorite step in the whole process?

For me, it is the rims. I leave them to do last. And I like going around each spoke and the spaces between like a machine, counting each section off as I go.

Finishing it.

For me it would be the wiping down of the engine bay. Love that part. I hate doing the wheels.

And I don't ever open the engine bay. I hate the very thought of trying to keep that place clean. I'll get it sprayed out at the dealer once in a while, especially if I went through some extended dusty driving.

I do almost the same thing. The color change of the Sonax wheel cleaner "working" is an added bonus. I also just bought a foamer for the pressure washer and got some Chemical Guys Maxi Suds Grape car wash. It smells great!

I most enjoy standing back and enjoying the shine. As for the process...probably just the main hand wash, everything else is very meticulous and arduous at times.

Amen brother. Getting old and starting to feel back pain the next day from all the bending involved in washing two cars (mine and the wife's SUV).

Besides finishing it would be the IGL Dash spray I use on the interior because it smells so good.

When you drive it the next morning and the mirrors start leaking out water all over the doors...oh you said your favorite part?

Leaf blowers work great to blow all of that water out after a fresh bath. :)

Last year, when I declared myself freed from the "war" on Ma Nature, my resolve to wash my car every time it gets spotted resulted in quite a few new pains, especially in my shoulders, especially my left shoulder, which still continues over half a year later. However, it is less all the time and I do therapy (my own, I do not go to therapists), and I know that "use it or lose it" (particularly in middle age, the moment of decision!) applies here as in all things.

Washing a car is great exercise. Once the activity is turned into muscle memory, the continuing of it will drive pains away. This I have proven.

I wouldn't dare. My wife with her ultra sensitive olfactory actually complained the first few weeks about the new car smell!? If you can believe it!? Any added new smell would be met with a negative response. When I still had my Voyager, I'd get the complimentary car wash "new car" scent mirror dangly. And each time my wife rode with me, she'd toss it into the carport. Marriage is a compromise. The dangly tosser I could put up with: the critic of my brand new Stinger's interior "smell" I could not. She shut up about it, if she wanted to ride with me at all. And eventually she confessed that she had gotten used to it and adapted. But the compromise from my end is that I must refrain from introducing any further scent/smell into the mix.

I really like applying the detailing spray and hand polishing it to complete a thorough wash .................

I literally do not apply anything with a smell about it at all. When I clean, I use cotton and microfiber and a spray bottle with water and a dash of ammonia. You can't smell that (vinegar is right out). If I need something stronger, I use isopropyl alcohol very sparingly.

Mine would be waxing and polishing.

Mine is when it is finished!
