I can't recall hitting a pothole, etc, hard enough to do this but here's my right rear wheel. Lovely.

I've ordered a replacement as it's cheaper than having it repaired.

I hit a pothole at some speed and did real damage to my front passenger side. Found it easier to just replace it also. Same rims.

Is that an aftermarket wheel? In general, I've found that aftermarket wheels are WAY softer than OEM and break if you sneeze the wrong way. I've gone through several sets, including OZ Racing wheels, where they got bent without any obvious "bad" pothole. And that was with 15 and 16 inch wheels. At this point, any aftermarket set I order new, I order 1-2 extra wheels, just in case..

Most aftermarket wheels are nearly 50% lighter than stock wheels. I suspect most of that weight comes from reducing the thickness of the "barrel" portion of the wheel. The reduced thickness makes them much weaker (moment of inertia increases with the cube of the thickness).

I want new lighter wheels but hate the thought of busting them on potholes.

Forged wheels would be stronger, but not enough to offset the thickness difference.

I've heard good things about Enkei in general in the Subaru world. Also, Brixton is supposed to be good, at least based on a few comments - around $500/wheel, IIRC. I don't trust $200/wheel products unless it's a massive clearance or something..

True. The exception are fully forged aftermarket wheels. But that price point is quite expensive.

Well, I guess you get what you pay for. $440 a wheel, TSW "Watkins": I've thumped some rough "features" on the road a few times and haven't seen any damage, yet.
