I have Kia Stinger 2.0t after 1700 KM, I went to dealership here in Saudi Arabia to change the oil and they put castrol magnatec professional A5 5w-30..
But in Owner's Manual kia Recommend ACEA C2 or above 0W-30

Is a5 compatible with the engine?
Is there a big difference between A5 and C2?

Thanks

(Please excuse any mistakes as English is my second language)

Mobil ESP and X1 Formula and Pennzoil Platinum Euro L meet C3,C2 BTW so does Total Quartz Ineo which meets C3,C2

Off topic a little, but How often does the manual say to get an oil change for 2.0? I thought it was a high mileage like 5k

That is the oil that the dealer used in my Australian 3.3 ltr. The manual says that for the 2.0 ltr that if the 0w30 c2 oil isn't available then consult the viscosity chart so seeing as mine used the 5w30 A5 then i'm sure yours will be fine

Because it was first time, After that every 10k mk they will charge the oil..

The problem isn't viscosity number...
My concern is they put ACEA A5/B5 oil
And kia recommend ACEA C2 oil

ACEA C2 oils are Top Tier lower SAPS1 lubricants. They are designed for use in high performance gasoline and light duty diesel engines where advanced aftertreatment systems such as Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) and Three Way Catalysts (TWC) are used.

ACEA A5/B5 oils are Upper Mainline lubricants. They are designed for use in high performance gasoline and light duty diesel engines that are specifically designed to use a low viscosity oil. These oils may be unsuitable for use in some engines.

I don't believe it would be a problem. But did you try to explain that to the dealer? He must provide you with what is mentioned in the owner's manual.

I change mine every year regardless of mileage, manly because I don't put mega miles on her......but I would every 5 k regardless of time frame if driven more.

So, I'm reviving this topic because I've been reading extensively about oils and can't understand what Kia meant by "ACEA C2 or above".

The reference oil - C2 has a HT/HS viscosity of minimum of 2.9 cP and mid SAPS (max 0.8%)

Now, compared to the C2:
C1 has lower SAPS (max 0.5%), which is better for catalitic converters. and the same HT/HS viscosity of minimum of 2.9 cP
C3 has same SAPS but higher minimum viscosity.
C4 has lower SAPS and higher minimum viscosity.
C5 has same SAPS but lower minimum viscosity.

So, basically I can't understand what "OR ABOVE" means. Normally, you would think C3,C4,C5. But if you look at specs, they are all so different it makes no sense!
Could it maybe mean C1 as the only "ABOVE" rating of C2? Because that would make a lot of sense. They have the same viscosity rating but C1 has lower SAPS so it is technically superior to C2 as it offers the same protection (viscosity) but also less contaminants (saps) for the catalitic system.

What do you guys think?

Or maybe “or above” makes a reference to the specs of the C2 oils?

This would mean the engine takes any 0W-30 oil that has:
- minimum HT/HS viscosity of 2.9 cP and
- maximum 0.8% SAPS.

That would qualify: C1, C3 and C4.
And disqualify C5 because its viscosity can be as low as 2.6 cP.

The acea grading is HERE
