My engine bay has taken longer to cool lately. I have to let it sit for about 4 hours before I put my car cover on. So I opened the hood to check things out and the linear rubber seal that is attached to the front inside of the hood stuck to the engine bay and when I gave it a good tug it just pullled out of the plastic holders. See pics. Anyone have this particular issue? My stinger is a 2019 GTS with 2,200 miles and don’t drive it hard. I guess I will be consulting with my local dealer about the heat. It is so hot I can barely touch the cross beam stabilizers above the air intake housings. Is that normal? I am a new to turbo engines and used to na v8’s.

Not happened on the forum that I know of. How hot are your oil and coolant gauges?

I think they are normal. I will double check tomorrow. I have had a somewhat bad day with quality issues on my Stinger that I have been bragging about. I need to keep my mouth shut I guess. I know even new cars aren’t perfect but I thought I had the perfect initial quality story to share.

Yes, engines get hot. Also, water is wet and the sky is blue.

But well-meaning snark aside, heat is normal. I went out and got dinner almost exactly 2 hours ago now. I just went down to the garage and felt the car. The hood is still noticeably warm to the touch, and under the hood, you cannot touch the crossbraces at all because they are still very hot. There are two turbos under the hood and an all aluminum engine. There is going to be heat. The LS1 in my Corvette retains heat forever too, and it doesn't have any turbochargers to contend with.

What isn't normal is ripping that seal off. That's weird.

Thanks for checking your engine for me. I knew the turbos build heat but it just seemed extreme. Yea the seal breaking loose is weird. I also own 2002 corvette z06 and the engine gets hot but it seems to dissipate the heat a lot faster.

yes, the longer heat is retained, is actually better. which is why the new b58 bmw motors are advertised with heat encapsulation to hold a specific amount of heat over a whole day up to 36 hours so that it isn't even ambient temperature after an overnight park. This should slow down the expansion/shrinking of everything for better oil leak prevention and emissions and wear and tear on startup.

the rubber? maybe a weak batch of rubber batter? or some chemical got on it? ours hasn't fallen off or gotten stuck on the bay yet but we only have 4500 miles so far..

I’ve noticed it holding heat for a long time also, I wasn’t used to that too.
How long have you had the car? When you wash the car does the weatherstripping get wiped down?
I recently started wiping the weatherstripping with armor all after a wash and it’s taken care of any sticking or noises from rubbing while driving.

See, I brought this up a while back and got reamed for thinking it was good for the engine to slowly dissipate heat. At least someone else gets it.

Also related to heat dissipation. The whole underside of the motor is shielded, not much room for it to escape. I think it also plays a factor in the equation.

My engine also ran hot. The metal intakes where pretty hot and also the cross braces. They paled in comparison to my oil catch cans though. Can't touch those at all.

Thanks for the input. I am learning at the young age of 57. Anyway to your question. I have only washed my car once and only opened the hood once. I have not treated any of the weatherstripping. Heck my car really doesn't get dirty. If it is raining I usually don't get out of the house. Lots of weird things are happening with my stinger and they just started this week. I have another thread about headlight housing condensation and that just started on Wednesday and yesterday I found spider line cracks in the paint beside the headlight housings. My condensation starts when my car is parked at home and the engine and bay is cooling down. I watched it yesterday and the condensation got worse hour after hour.

Yea I bought my car the last day in January 2020 and I only have 2200 miles on it. Looks like a trip to one of the 2 KIA dealerships near me. I bought the car out of state and had it shipped to me so I need to network/research which one has the reputation for the best service department in Augusta, Georgia.

Oh wow, that is new and very low mileage. For sure have the dealer replace weatherstripping and keep an eye on it . I would be making sure the headlights get replaced under warranty as led headlights are expensive to replace!! The hairline cracks near the headlight housings make it suspicious that there was minor damage during shipping perhaps that caused a seal in the headlight to break .. a coworker with an f10 m5 had someone back into their car and scratched the bumper and hood only, insurance fixed it but it wasn't until the temperature cooled in the fall that he started getting condensation in the headlight on the side of impact .. they took it out and saw that the housing had cracked allowing water to pool in the bottom of the assembly but bumy this point it was too late sincr the claimed was already settled.

My car was immaculate post truck delivery. See pic below for paint crack. It is on the right of the right front headlight housing.

I use the dealer in Evans, they seem to be good, I have had no issues with their service.

did you find out the issue, I have not had that issue yet, hope that I dont

Not yet. I took it to KIA of Augusta and they replaced the hood seal but could not determine why the seal failed and why my headlights fill with condensate everyday while the engine bay cools down. I am gonna use Evans KIA next and try to get a 3 for 1 visit. Engine fire recall repair, 1st engine oil change, and troubleshoot the heat issue. Thanks for the lead on Evans KIA.
