I searched and couldn't find any info about this. I installed the Typhoon and did not disconnect the battery. Does the ECU "re-learn" at a particular interval to adjust to new conditions? Is the ECU is reset when disconnecting the battery?

Thanks and sorry if this is common knowledge!

I didn't disconnect the battery either, everything was and is fine, never really noticed any power gains but the sound is awesome

Thanks. This was my 1st 'substantive' modification and I was concerned there would be some issue/problem with or without battery disconnect. After the install, I anxiously pressed Start and was a bit freaked out by the sound on start-up! All that air being sucked in! Then I nearly soiled myself when I saw what was the 'hood not latched image' on the screen. I hadn't had the car running with the hood open before and thought for sure, "only I could mess this up or cause some sort of code!!" After realizing my ignorance I relaxed and went for a jaunt. Yes, the sound is pretty noticeable. Although I haven't driven much more yet, it seemed the MPG was a bit lower. So I was wondering whether if anyone knew whether there is a ECU learning cycle/process that is automatic. I know for my tuned Subies, I have drive ~50 miles after reset via AccessPort. Found that out when I got the OBD NY 'inspection' and it failed!!!

I just unplug the ECU and leave it for 30min. But if you want to do a total reset of all adaptation values you need a fancy scanner.

Alrighty then, it is a mystery

It is my understanding the ECU will adapt to the extra air flow the car is receiving due to the new intakes, so normal driving and a couple WOT and you will be good to go

The typhoon, is it that extra big air intake thing? (I've ordered Sal's sold one)
Also, does the battery disconnect f-up stuff like radio code etc, like german cars?

All ECUs work a little differently, but pulling the battery is primarily to reset fuel trims (other adaptive tables will reset as well such a transmission shift, etc). Over time, they will relearn. My knowledge is primarily coming from GM 3800/LS1 PCMs, but they all tend to work similarly.

It will also reset emissions system readiness states. I'm not familiar with how all of the Hyundai/Kia emissions states become ready. In the GM world, they can be pretty extensive tests (especially evap). This is why you don't want to immediately get an emissions inspection after a pulling the battery, reflashing the ECU, etc.

After reseting the ECU (disconnecting the module for 30 minutes)do I have to perform any special adjustment or just drive the car as usually? I have mods like jb4(fuel, EWG), BMS intakes etc...

Like someone else said, just drive around and do a a few WOT pulls and you'll be fine. That's what I did.
The ECU is surprisingly flexible with mods and adjust things pretty quickly.

I just pulled my ECU in hopes it would fix my timing (I run map 3 with very low timing 0.0 - 0.8, map 4 I’m hitting 5.3)

I’m also running jb4. Did you just plug the ECU back in and drive around on map0 or do you have to go through all the maps or what?

Do NOT keep removing the ecu to clear timings. Just pull the negative battery terminal instead.
