Downpipes..ARK vs JunBL

It's been a while since I've done any exhaust mods, so sorry if this is a dumb question but - will catless downpipes cause an emissions test fail?

Not if you're referring to secondary downpipes, which is what this thread is all about. The primary downpipes have a catalytic converter on each side, and the emissions related O2 sensors are associated with said cats.

Ok, great - thanks!

Anyone with down pipes have an issue with the turbos spooling too quickly and the car going into limp mode?

There is a chance that the raspy vibration he is getting could be from the down pipe fitment. If I had to do it again though I’d probably take a chance on the OBX pipes as well as they’re half the price.
The rasp caused by the secondary dp is more about your catback. Cross over pipes help.

That happens when you use catless (or sometimes even with aftermarket high-flow cats) primaries, not what we've commonly called the "downpipes" which are after the primary cat.
Running catless on the primary requires ECU mods or more interesting piggyback work.
Modifying anything after the primary cat won't cause issues.

The ECU won't know that anything changed. However, CYA and check your local regulations. For example, downpipes aren't CARB legal. Testing stations that do sniff testing on new cars might detect the change as well. Places that do a full visual would also.

Modifications after the primary cat will not cause an OBDII fail, if that is all your local authority checks.

So, in conclusion >

Go with cheap secondary down pipes (2.5" or bigger)
and match that with a cat back exhaust of (2.5")

And dont touch the first stage down pipes, and then you will get 0 issues with engine lights and increase your performance?
(Please confirm somebody that knows what they're talking about haha)

- Also how would this increase performance if the airflow is still limited by the 1st stage downpipes?

The stock secondaries have pinch points that restrict flow. If you are using a JB4 you will need to install the EWG wires.

Just wanted to jump in and say that I installed Ark dowbpipes (secondaries) that I bought second hand off a member here. My only performance mods are BMS intakes, BMS throttle tuner and ARK downpipes. A lot of people have said the downpipes dont provide a bump in power. My experience has been that the turbos are into boost at a lower rpm and I definitely feel a power bump especially low-end along with an increase in throttle responce, maybe they dont provide much in the way of peak power gains but I feel it elsewhere which to me is more useable anyway.

With the entire oem exhaust still in place I got a little bump in sound which I like but it's only a small one, no drone or anything like that. The Ark downpipes are MUCH less restrictive, you drop the small OEM cat plus the OEM pipes are a flat design with a couple tight kinks in them and the Ark pipes are wide open with mandrel bends. I'm very happy with them.

I have had my combo ( MBRP+Jun BL secondaries) for about a year now with 0 issues. I remember one person saying this combo is louder than the Borla alone but I wouldn’t know. Combined with the windbooster, intakes and snorkels, it feels like a rocket. Enough for me to stay out of trouble without a tune but still have fun.
