Has anyone actually confirmed that there is active noise cancelling on our hk based radio. Actual kia official document. I dont recall seeing it on kia website and I would have thought that this feasture would be on the front page.. Just wondering if there is something official.

thx

I'd love some "official" verification as well...my info is from the head service tech at the dealership near me. Any Kia sales folks have the skinny on this? @Dave Miller

Unfortunately I have nothing official for you. I haven't heard about the active noise cancellation in the Stinger so I tried digging a bit deeper and couldn't find much.

I do see that Kia employs active noise cancellation because it's listed if you look at their technologies page.
Kia Technology | Safety Technology | Kia Motors Worldwide

But if I look through any Stinger brochure ever, there's no mention of active sound cancelling. My assumption is that it is tied in with the simulated engine noise, but I may be wrong.

It would be interesting to see if they mention ANC in other car manuals or not. This kia web page is generic enough so cant assess if this refers to stinger or not. The steering wheel on the top of page looks pretty cool.

I would be surprised they offer noise cancelling and not advertise it like other car manufactures. It doesn't logically make sense for KIA to list acoustic glass in features but not an active noise cancelling system... And as stated the link is pretty generic showing other models and appears not to be a US site, so it's possible it might not be on the US Stingers. Hence the lack of advertising it.

They arbitrary didn't include features like the aluminum cup holder cover in the US to save on cost (I'm sure a huge saver...I like it without, just stating it seems silly of a reason), so it wouldn't surprise me not to include active noise cancelling here too.

I agree with this. If anything I would say the artificial engine noise is "noise cancelling" in the sense you're hearing more engine and less of the more unpleasant sounds, but I have never been trained or seen anywhere that is has true noise cancelling.

The closest thing I've come to a confirmation is a comparison article between the Nissan Maxima and the Stinger saying the Maxima offers it and the Stinger does not, but it wasn't exactly the most official comparison so take that with a grain of salt.

Could it possibly be that all this "great technology" of "active noise cancelling" is just a fake engine sound coming in to mask sounds you don't want to hear? I mean - hell - turning on some music is then "active noise cancelling". I'm not debating - just asking...

The noise cancelling they describe on their technologies page is true noise cancelling, I'm just fairly sure it wasn't put into the Stinger for who know what reason.

"This technology provides an ability to identify the frequency, volume, tone and other attributes of noise coming into the cabin and emits a sound wave with the same amplitude but with inverted phase to the noise. It can also minimize unnecessary structures to further reduce noise, ultimately achieving better fuel efficiency."

Okay, now THAT sounds like "technology". Not "nail technician" or "burger engineer". :p

Acoustic glass is a marketing term. Everything is acoustical. Whether or not something is high performing as acoustical or not is the real question and unfortunately there is nothing special about the glass other than they are calling is acoustical.

There is a difference between Kia's acoustic glass and their regular glass in terms of noise inside of the vehicle. Drive a Sorento L vs a Sorento LX on the highway and you will notice the difference. The LX just has the acoustic windshield. Drive the EX with acoustic windshield and glass windows as well and it is even better.

Sound rated glass has a higher STC (sound transmission class). So if you believe the certain models including the stinger have a higher STC rated glass than yes it is capable of blocking more sound than a lower STC rated glass. There are many variables that also affect the glass performance including the type of seals and the deflection characteristics of the glass which with the proper recipe can indeed stop a good amount of sound from transmitting thru the glass.

This is not the same as the marketing term acoustical glass. Acoustical materials are designed to have NRC (noise reduction coefficient) which means it is designed to absorb or diffuse sound to help reduce and control reverb and echo and overall acoustics. The glass in the stinger or any other Kia is not acoustical by definition but rather a term used for marketing.

The first thing that surprised me when I got on the road with this car was the amount of wind noise at the drivers' window...

The Stingers with the 2.0T doesn’t have the same glass as the GTs or even the Optima EX and above. Acoustic glass is what KIA calls it, I’ll go with that, it certainly does it’s job.

Road and wind noise was substantially lower in the two Stingers I've driven (both GT2) than in my Sorento ('15 SX)..

The GT does have "enhanced" exhaust sound coming through the speakers

Has anyone considered they may have not included it as another differentiator for the G70?

Nah, I think at this point Kia and Hyundai are competing pretty heavily with each other.
