When I put my GT2 into manual mode by pressing on my paddle shift the gear goes up or down accordingly but after few seconds the transmission goes to D again, does anyone know how to keep the car in manual mode permanently? I tried to changes the settings on the screen but seems there is no option to change transmission behavior. Any thoughts

Thank you in advance

On the GT1 you can move the gear lever to the left to keep it in manual. Is that not a thing on the GT2?

Edit: Poked around and it seems to not be possible without an aftermarket software change that comes with certain tunes. Sorry.

New darn fangled contraptions.

It will only hold gears in manual if you're in sport mode, or custom if you have it set to sport. All the other modes will only see a quick downshift/upshift then revert back to drive. Also, at least on MY18, it will switch back to drive when you come to a full stop.

Every review I read and video I watched prior to purchasing mine stated this as a feature of the car, though no one liked it. They all said it will revert to D so I don't think it CAN stay in manual.

I consider it a feature, at least when doing something like mountain driving or when you do a manual downshift while fencing with traffic. In the mountains you often need some engine braking, or a quick downshift for a steep section, but you don't necessarily want it to stay in manual after that. And in traffic you might want some braking or a quick spurt of power, and it helps for it to go back to "normal" operation afterwards. Otherwise, you find yourself stuck in 1st after the next stop.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Exactly and I completely agree... And every review said similar. That's one of the "flaws" of the car unfortunately.

It makes sense I've been only on eco mode, I dont think is a flaw think Kia put it that way because why would someone need to keep it manual on eco mode, good to know in sports it will stay in manual

If it didn't revert to "D" there would be many more complaints than Kia doing it this way. At least, as mentioned, the GT1 has "manual gate" (heh! it only took me 4K miles to find out about it, reading the manual: I even did a 2K+ road trip to TX and back without discovering manual gate; and I did the entire trip in Sport). And I am unsure about Sport with the GT2: this has been talked about several times, and it seems that Sport will keep "D" until you come to a complete stop; the GT1, not in manual gate, does that.

As merlin said, I believe sport mode in the GT2 will work the same as the gt1 in D. Yes it will hold a gear but will eventually switch back to drive after not touching a paddle for 15 seconds or so. At least this is what I have observed.

Makes sense. I have a GT2 and it's not an issue. Why would you be in any mode other than Sport (or Custom) if you wanted to control engine revs and gearing? I used Comfort mode while driving in the mountains of Colorado last year and the paddle shifters do everything I needed to do including maintaining the downshift during engine braking.

GT1 has the manual gate and will stay in manual mode no matter what, no automatic upshifts either. GT2 doesn't have that, it will stay in manual mode in sport but will automatically upshift and still revert to d at a stop. Did the new transmission logic change the automatic upshift?
