I wanted to upgrade the steering wheel, the original is good but was lacking some spice compared to how monstrous this car performs so i decided to put a CF steering wheel, do it stupid easy Im and MD and I am a stupid in terms of mechanical dexterity, if a moron like me could do this you could do it too.
Here is where I bought it
Only about 500 USD stupid cheap compared to other where they charge you about 1000 USD or even more, comes with a nice Element 6 cover and is very well packed, be careful; if you are going to use a knife make sure you won't cut the steering wheel while you are truing to cut the packaging foam and packing tape. It came form Korea but it only took about 10 days.
Time spent about 2 hours just because I have OCD and took my time.
Tools you need: Wrench, 10 and 21 mm socket, several screw drivers and a torque wrench, good ambient lighting and some nice coffee.
1. Get the spare tire and disconnect the negative on your battery you don't want to blow your airbag on your precious face
2. Have a long thing screwdriver poke on the side holes next to the paddle shifters and one on the bottom of the steering wheel there are total of 3 holes you need to poke to remove the airbag
3. Once airbag pops out squeeze out there are 2 colored connectors and 2 white ones
4. Remove then with a wrench 21 mm socket the main steering wheel bolt be careful not to damage the leather of the steering wheel or any materials in your car
5. Pull the steering wheel gently do not hammer it down
6. Kia recommends you use a new main bolt for the steering wheel
7. Stark taking apart the plastic parts from the old steering wheel then install them on the new CF steering wheel, FTI there are many many screws that attack the plastic parts and you have to have patient and remove all of the screws
8. Put back the steering wheel gently put the connectors back
9. Push the airbag back and that's it very easy
FYI this new CF steering wheel comes with additional installed cables for the heated steering wheels mine did not have that so I cut the cables out competelly.
So proud I could have done this myself in spite of having no mechanical expertise whatsoever.
Results are astonishing the new steering wheel with the CF looks amazing and feels premium the perforation of the leather are much deeper like on my R8 and the steering wheel feels thicker on your hand ,feels hefty!
FYI pics are not in order of installation you need to use common sense could not take a pic of every step.
I'll keep posting more upgrades as they happen.
Cheers and enjoy, incredible how a CF steering wheel makes a big difference in making the car more luxiourus and sporty.
