Hi All,
So this has been an idea ever since I disconnected the diverter valve hoses to get a bit of louder sound from them. My last turbo car had a Greddy Type S, and I loved the sound. Since I haven't really wanted to pay for 2 new BOV's plus adapter plates to get no real performance boost, I've had to make do with the stock DV's and open air filters, you can hear it, but it's not a good/ true BOV sound.

So I was on travel in a small town with not much to do so I cadded up a horn that would fit over the exhaust nipple of the stock DV, got back and got my hands on a 3d printer and made them in halves so i could check fitment on them, and tweak if necessary.

Good news is, I can still measure, they fit perfectly onto the nipple and the space.

The audio results are mixed, it's louder, but marginally so to me. My wife and son both swear it's significantly louder from outside, but I can barely tell the difference in the cabin, window down. YMMV.

I took some video with and without the horns installed, but you really can't tell the difference there, I think my phone normalizes the audio to make it all generally level, I may dig up a gopro to try it there. Next I'm going to try experimenting with holes and slots cut in, see if I can get a bit higher note to it (not quite the GFB whistle sound, but between there and stock). Still playing with it, it's been an entertaining little project to kick around. Open to any input or suggestions.

And since everyone always wants pics and video, here's version alpha.

Inner surface. The little horizontal channel is what grabs onto the barbs on the DV nipple.

Here's the piece in place, showing how it fits into place on the nipple.

And video (from the cell phone, hard to tell difference). This is with no horns, just the open DV:

Hope you like it or at least find it interesting.

I like this idea!

I can't see any of the pictures and only the second video link worked.... could just be me.

like you i love the sound of but don't want to spend the money for no performance gain..... but i do cosmetic things to car for no performance gain.... maybe i need to rethink my thinking.

Whoops, the photos were showing for me but they weren't shared publicly, should be visible to all now.

how would the horn close under idle?

Wouldn't these just constantly leak boost pressure causing a major decrease in performance?

No, the actual valve that closes and holds boost is the OEM diverter valve (the little black boxes with the black braided hose going to it), the horn is simply in the spot where stock hoses feed back to the pre-turbo intake, or where many people just disconnect the hoses and leave them venting to the atmosphere. All this does is amplify the sound, this has no actual valve, mechanical function, or effect on boost.

How much for you to sell me those horns so i can try them out? like the idea lol.

I'm glad someone else likes the idea, these are not quite ready for primetime, still tweaking them, once I'm happy with them, if people want them, i'll figure out a way to make them available.

Ok, so I've added in a couple different style "inserts" to break up the venting air flow and hopefully give us a bit more of a chirp, or at least give us a bit more volume. The fin one is trying to emulate the HKS SSQV insert for a high pitch chirp.

Version 1.1 and 1.2 below, i'll test them out this weekend, see if we get any difference.

I can’t see the pictures ? Can you make a you tube video please.

whatever happened to this DIY ?

I went through several different versions with fins and inserts to try to increase the volume and pitch, no real effect. Then I got a nice deal on some used GFB BOV's, which are like night and day, so I abandoned it. If anyone wants to try their hand at it, i'll share the 3d model file.

I was actually thinking of running some rubber hose from the BOVs straight down through two holes in the tray.
Might need some wire mesh to stop anything crawling up.
Should be a lot louder.

Wouldn't narrowing the opening increase the air pressure resulting in a louder whoosh? Like the air blow tips on an air compressor?
