I’ve had my GT for a month now and have noticed all discs have rust spots. The front drivers side is particularly bad.

Will certainly bring this up with Kia when I get my first 3,000 Service.

Has anyone had this issue and know if any particular cause?

To have rust on the rotors they would have to be pitted. Is this what you mean? Any photos?

Sorry yes. Don’t notice any issues with braking. In fact brakes are super responsive.

Looks unsightly.

Tried to take a photo but have iPhone 5 so picture quality not good.

depends on where you are. Disc brakes will normally get some surface rust, which gets rubbed off immediately each time you use your brakes. Then it can rust again within a day, depending on your local weather conditions.

by its very nature disc brakes leave raw unprotected steel/iron exposed to air every time they're used.

Thanks weew. I live in Australia and have never had this issue with other cars I have driven. I had a Holden for years that wasn’t garaged and never had a spot of rust on the rotors.

Haven’t driven the GT for a couple of days. Will take it out tomorrow and see if the spots wear off.

My discs get minor surface rust very quickly after being washed but wears off the second it's driven - bare steel, mild detergent and water = mild surface oxidisation.

If you see rust after driving, it's a concern.
If it's not been driven for a while or just been washed, not a concern .......

Brake discs are made from cast iron and iron gets rusts spots after a few hours after you might just washed your car. All cast iron discs on all cars rust and stinger is no exception. Over time thick layers of rust, brake dust and disc particles accumulate on the inside of the vented disc and on the edges. This is normal and after a few years your discs will look totally corroded as on any other car. This is isn't something warranty would cover and if you live in wetter and colder climate where they use salt during winter months it will rust even faster.
Even if you buy brand new discs they will look nice for 3-4 months and then they will start rusting and constant heating and cooling destroys anti corrosion coatings fast to. Rusty discs are fact unless you have high end exotic car with ceramic discs which costs a lot more than stinger.

You don't even have to take it for a drive. Just back out of your driveway and pull back in and the rust will be gone.

Thanks for the info. It’s funny though I have been driving Holden’s for near on 30 years and never ever had a problem like this. Perhaps because they were made in Australia, lol.

Living by the ocean makes a difference. I don't, my rotors still get rust spots if not driven for a couple of days, but when I've taken it to places near the ocean, they show up much sooner..
