120,420 miles. My LR Locked up this morning. After a few tries forward and reverse it let go, but feel like it won't be long before it's toast. Just wondering if it will be just the rear diff needing replaced or how much more is involved?

Any chance it could be an electronic brake failure?
Is it an open diff or a limited slip?

I was hoping that was it, but the wheel still is able to move a tad bit, so it isn't the caliper nor would there be any reason for the epb to be fictioning when it happened. 2021 AWD GT2
Open.

It might be the diff........but diffs are pretty robust and it is a Limited Slip Diff so it is meant to slip. Try putting in some diff oil or Limited diff oil treatment. There is stuff around.

I would be inclined to look at the hand brake..........stuck caliper..........wheel bearing..........

Are you hearing any unusual noises from the back of the car? If the diff is going, I would expect to hear it (gear whine or rumbling (if a bearing). This could also be a transfer case problem.

You have 120k miles on a 2021?
dang, I thought I drove a lot with 55,000 on my 2022

Thanks for the correction on the LSD. I didn't think it was. My neighbor convinced me it is probably the wheel bearing. I'm going to start there and keep my fingers crossed that's the answer.

Just suspension squeaks over bumps. Just before it locked up and then let go it sounded as it would if it slipped with EPB on.

Pretty sure in the US, the AWD stingers all had open diffs with the exception of the GTS and the Indigo since they both have the D-AWD setup with drift mode. The RWD models have limited slip.

I thought they all had LSDs. Open diff is another way of saying standard diff, the oldest diff known to vehicles. An absolutely leave you bogged diff but then the AWD is supposed to solve this?

That's what I gathered from the research and the manual. Manual is slightly confusing though.
Anyways:

Ouch, is that from the parking brake shoes?

Wow, do you use the electronic parking brake regularly? Maybe park on an incline? It's crazy that it got so chewed up.

I used it all the time. In my mind not having the car roll back onto the gears was a good thing. Lol
I also used auto hold regularly and didn't turn it off.

This makes me wonder about all the people who have the "stiff brake pedal" issue and being unable to start the car because it's damn near impossible to press the brake pedal enough to start the car. Makes me wonder if they're using Auto Hold, park the car, turn it off, and it does something odd with the brakes/brake pedal causing the pedal to be stiff/difficult to press. I rarely, if ever, use the auto hold feature so I wouldn't really know. I personally don't trust electronics enough to put my safety at a red light in its hands.

Your theory is good but in my case i dont use the auto hold and get that stiff pedal issue at times. Im with you 100% on the no trust at a red light statement. I dont really use the e brake

Ahhh oh well. Was hoping maybe they could be related. I still do use the e/parking brake when I park the car. It was driven into me when I was young that it was good practice regardless of the car being automatic or manual.

Either way, very glad this issue was something as simple as the parking brake shoe instead of the actual diff.

You can over think it. Diffs are pretty tough inside and out. They take knocks at 100mph. They get the car jacked up on them which makes me shudder. They take all the power from the engine. You would probably break everything else first.

when it's the proper type of housing it doesn't harm a diff in any way to jack on them
half the time manuals recommend that
