• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Hi Everyone,

After some advice. I signed off on a GT Stinger on the 10th December. I was verbally advised that it "could" take up to 7 months for my car to come in. I confirmed verbally that I would be getting a 2018 built car based on this, to which I was advised that would be the case because there is simply no stock available and that there was a long wait for any colour / trim (Being that it was already nearly mid December). I know there is a 2 month trip from rolling off the line to someone buying the car...

I am trading my existing car and based on this I accepted the trade in offered based on the fact I would be driving it whilst waiting and obviously since it was going to be a number of months this would work out in the end. My invoice also stated delivery being 9th June 2018 (although estimated) but definitely would not see my car until at least March, but potentially later than that. Although a long wait - I was happy with this.

I have just been advised that my car has been allocated and it is in fact a 2017 build (Believe to be December) but complianced as 2018. Upon questioning the dealer as to how this magically changed I was advised that they were able to get their hands on a car for me and that I should be happy that they have been able to get their hands on one.

I know full well that this only really helps them as then they will be able to ensure they make some money on the resale of my old car etc.

Not sure if I should push back for a 2018 build (or even whether I can) or just take the 2017 build. This was not unfortunately specifically specified on the purchase contract.

Thoughts?

TIA
Jamie.

If its a 2017 build then you'll get the car earlier. 2018 sounds like the June date they gave you? A number of months ago when i had my car on order i was told that a directive from Kia was to give precedence to the US market. I was warned that supply would be short over demand. I put a clause in. Before xmas or cancel.

If it's the Stinger in colour and trim you wanted and you ordered it based on driving a 2017 Stinger. Then my advice is take car and enjoy! I don't see the value of a 2018 car vs. a 2017 car. They're all built to the same spec and while small changes are sure to be made at the factory to improve the reliability and fix the first round of bugs, it's not like the 2018 has an extra turbo with 9 speed auto and AWD.

By now the factory will be working through many production and quality issues anyway so it's not like your first in.

My opinion, they have found you a car and that's what you want. Do it.

All the cars here are 2017 builds and if you really want the 2018 build then it's another 5 months wait.

What's the point of having a 2018 build over a 2017 build?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Main thing is resale value. It is always seen as a year older upon re-sale, even though there are no differences in the model or trim levels. Saying that I do intend on keeping this for a min of 5 years - so will not make too much of a difference in any case.

There will not be any 2018 builds in oz until at least April (late) from what I can tell so will probably just take this one. :)

The concern was more around that I accepted the trade in price based on waiting to get a 2018 (which would have been close to May before getting it) build but as it turns out it will be a 2017 build and I will get in Mid Feb.

Not a big issue in the big scheme of things. I have only seen 2 on the roads in Melbourne so far - so still not many of them around.

Thanks for your opinions. :)

Jamie.

Ah guess that's why it doesn't really matter around here in Switzerland at least ... we look at the cars immatriculation, i.e. when it has gone to the road usually and don't really care about when it was made (it's simply to rare to have a car made in 2008 and first time on road 2018 around here).

What would I do? I'd take whichever car would come to me first. If it's going to save a month or two, take it. If you're still going to be waiting a long time anyway then you might as well just wait and get the 2018. I'm not patient but I can wait a few weeks for the "next model year". Just not longer than that...
