Putting along on US 41 S in what I think was gurnee (42°22'44.7"N 87°54'51.5"W · 1599 Skokie Hwy, Gurnee, IL 60031). In the outside lane coming up on a left curve. Jackass in the penske waiting to turn decides it's driving a car and turns right (same direction of travel as me). I have no idea what this idiot is doing, if he/she/it plans on going into outside lane or what.

I was on the brakes hard, then decided last sec to swerve over. Figure if there was some one there I'd side swipe them. Better than rear ending the diesel dummy. Stinger handled the evasion maneuver exceptionally well. I didn't over do it so nothing to correct. It's not normal for me to brake on curves, especially this hard. The video is a bit deceiving. Everything happened faster than what it appears.

Most folks don't pull this kind of crap. He saw there were other cars too, but no, he has to go first.

Stinger survives another day...

The moment you might have had to brake soon enough was wasted in disbelief.

Glad it ended without any RUD (rapid unscheduled disassembly).

Hard to judge speed in a video, but relatively to that white sedan, seems like you were moving along at a good clip.

Not too excessively because there's usually cross traffic, but not this level of insane cross traffic. Lesson here; when you see rental box trucks, assume they're going to turn in front of you. It's like riding a motorcycle all over again.

Yeah, like riding a motorcycle, you ride defensively but proactively like everybody is out to kill you. That said, when I'm in a car, facing an impending collision where I know the other party is 100% at fault, I'm not so sure I would swerve out of the way, unless I have enough time to check I won't hit somebody else and end up at fault. I have the crumple zone to protect me and any other occupants, so it might be better to brake as hard as I can to lessen the impact and deal with consequences of somebody else at fault. On a bike is different... at fault or not, any other option is better than being dead or seriously maimed. So, I'd do whatever I can to avoid getting myself banged up bad, even if that means swerving at the risk of hitting something, hopefully less consequential... even if that puts me at fault.

Not trying to Monday morning quarterback. We can only try our best at making a split moment decision.

Two decades of riding, low sided once early on. Ended up in a soft ditch. Walked away with zero damage to me or bike.

Next time wasn't so lucky. Was first at the light. Got rear ended by grandpa who didn't see me (red honda vfr1200). Got punted into traffic. Fortunately no one ran me over and I didn't break anything but the sidi boots (stretched, they didn't fit right afterwards) and tear the gloves. Had some exhaust burns. Ended up straddling the bike while it was on its side.. Helmet never hit the ground.

Agreed, on the bike you do everything you can to avoid any collision period. After years of riding one develops a 6th sense of sorts. Can sense when something doesn't seem right and adjust according. I have atrophy of that now. Haven't ridden in a decade. Attention was on the line. Live and learn.

Note the timer in the video. It's real time. It all happened in 3-4 seconds.

Those tires in my sig are getting replaced with the same when the time comes.

Just picked up a set of AS4 235/45r18, waiting on the TPMS sensors. Glad to see them getting the job done.

The difficulty of dodging NPCs keeps going up...

Arguably my all time favorite gentleman's sport bike. Had a 2010 red one for some 7yrs and liked it so much I replaced it with a 2012 blue one. Love that narrow-angle V4.
