I have been reading about the battery drain from using auxiliaries impacting on the IGS function. Which dash cam has the least battery drain and will this be overcome by using an independent power source (PowerPack, PowerPlus)? Should I wait to see how much impact there is without a dashcam first? Why can't the 360 degree camera be recorded?

Hi Tyse,
I’ve had a BlackVue DR750-2ch installed on the weekend and part of the installation was something called Dr PMP (power magic pro) which monitors the car battery voltage and will cut the camera feed at a certain point so it will never drain the battery where it won’t start. I’m not sure where mine was set but it hasn’t given me any problems so far. The installer also gave a maximum run time of 12 hours but can also be extended.
I also hard wired a pocket WiFi to the PMP which now allows me to live view, track, communicate and can even receive notifications if the car has been impacted or even if motion is detected in parking mode if set. The pocket wifi runs up to 8 hours after disconnected.
So I’m not able to answer your question directly but this will give you an option with any camera you go with.

Thanks Marco,
Do you mind telling me how much the installation cost and who you had do it, please. I see you are also in Melbourne.

Happy to, Autobarn in Epping and installation was $250 (for 2.5 hours) but it actually took 3.

I wonder if whatever calculations are used to decide whether the IGS should kick in or not, take into account the battery's state and reserve power or only the current draw. I'm not a fan of IGS and do my best to remember to turn it off. But I wonder if an upgraded battery would be considered re: IGS use.

Battery drain in BMW's was so bad they actually will strongly suggest buying a trickle charger , we dont put many miles on our cars and were constantly having to charge them as a result

That's true - but I thought they fixed that in newer models - like 2015 and newer... No?

The more nannies they add the worse it gets , I loved the technicians response to my battery drain issues . Its due to "driver operation deficiency " - OMG I have DOD ! .............DOD = sell BMW
