I purchased & took delivery of a sunset yellow gt2 on 05/26. On 05/31, the dealer called and said I had to return it due to the stop sale order. Called customer service that night, premium support person didn't know anything about a stop sale order, said he would call the dealer and find out what was going on and start a CS case. He didn't do either.
So I did one myself on sunday 06/10, then called on monday and got a CS tech who actually knew what she was talking about.
GM at the dealer has been very good, sent someone 50 miles with a service loaner on 06/04 and returned my large down payment, also took my trade in off the lot.
The GM hasn't heard anything from KIA yet. When I did the CS case, it said I would get some sort of response in 48 hours. BS!
It has now been 2-1/2 weeks.

Very strange concept of Customer Service, in my opinion.

Were you okay with giving it back? I would have told them no way, I love this car too much!

Had no choice, the paperwork (registration & loan application) hadn't been sent in yet, dealer said he couldn't because of the stop sale, tech at KIA said that was correct.

Very intresting!!! Cant wait to here the reason. Sorry to hear that Rick!

I wouldn't be too surprised if the dealer pulled some BS to turn around and sell it to someone else willing to pay extra for a dealer "premium paint" mark up. Here in Southern California, many dealers had a $5,000 or more mark up for Sunset Yellow! If you really wanted THAT car, I'd get with Kia premium and raise the flag! If you still have the VIN, you can likely track it and see where it ends up. Either way, dealers aren't always known for scrupulous business practices. Way want to check with another dealer and give this a sanity check. Good luck!!! db

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Called on Thursday. Dealer said he still had not heard from KIA. I asked what my options were. He is getting a gt2 in white from another dealer this week. I got the sunset yellow for its equipment, not its color. I tried to look at my customer case on Wednesday. It had been closed and I couldn't see it. The whole method (of opening a case) is useless.
Thanks

I've never heard of a stop sale order. Keep us updated.

The dealer probably sold the Stinger during the stop sale and was not allowed to. They had to get it back or face repercussions from KIA. They did not re-sell for a higher price/markup. Those days are long gone.

Believe you're correct. At any rate, I should have a new one next week. By the way, dealer wasn't charging extra for the yellow.

Jason from Muncie: please elaborate. Were ALL dealers (including yours) subject to a "stop sale"? Sure makes no sense to do so on a single vehicle sale.... unless there was some financial approval problem after the vehicle left the lot? Someting in this story isn't right... and if there was a national "stop sale" we should have heard of it.. and know why it occured. I've got a half of a century of automotive interest at hand (including many dealer purchases), and this is a new one by me! Thanks, db

The stop sale was for all dealers. Yellow and Blue Stingers only. Then Blue was released from the stop sale. KIA gave us no information beyond that.

Ahhh, it's because of the paint problems. Welp, OP, at least you won't have to deal with your paint melting off when the sun comes up.
