Hey guys, tried searching this and didnt see anything discussing this. I'm wondering if I can put a gallon or 2 of e85 in my stinger gt, completely stock, no jb4. I used to do this in my focus st and it would help it run smoother and add a little power due to poor fuel quality in AZ and not being able to get 93 octane. I'd rather do this than use a crappy octane booster if possible. Let me know.
Thank you

Ethanol contains less energy than petrol, but higher octane.

If you're losing power because the engine is detecting knock and pulling timing, some ethanol may help - but too much can be harmful (ethanol carries its own oxygen, effectively leaning out the burn).

E10 (so 10% ethanol) is common in Australia, it runs to about RON94 instead of the RON91, and can generally be run without changes to the engine. If you mix E85 into a tank of fuel at the right ratios, that should be possible to achieve.

But be aware, you'll probably burn a little more of it, so economy will suffer slightly.

The injector duty cycle on e85 is about 138% of premium fuel, so just know you'll burn more fuel.

I've been mixing to E30 using a calculator for a few fill ups now on a stock vehicle with no adverse effects other than a noticeable drop in fuel economy. I go down from 24MPG on 92 or 93 E10 (standard premium fuel for the Twin Cities) to about 17MPG on approximately 95-96 octane E30. Performance feels roughly the same. It might be a tiny bit faster with E30 but I don't have a dragy to measure. I'm going back to regular premium fuel for now until I decide what route to go with mods.

Your Stinger will run just fine on 87 octane (regular fuel), you just might lose a little power. Without a tune, for maximum performance use premium fuel (91 or above octane, but not E85).

What do you mean by your comment of poor fuel quality in Arizona? Gas is gas everywhere you go in the U.S. The only exception being that when you purchase TOP TIER gas you are buying gas with more detergent additives than non-TOP Tier. Buy TOP TIER fuel as recommended by your OM.

Perhaps it's just a matter of poor word choice, and I don't intend to nit-pick, but I can assure you that using 87 octane WILL result in lost performance. It's not going to blow up an engine, but you better believe the O2 and knock sensors will cause timing retardation. That's basically why they're there.

My word choice came directly from the OM.
