Hi,
For quite a while now, I have noticed a bit of a clunky gear change. It seems to happen when you are coasting along and then you put your foot down and you can feel a slight clunk as the car finds the correct gear. It’s a bit annoying and not something I’ve found on previous cars.
I wonder if anyone else has experienced this?

I would say the auto box is actually very good, although at times the shift points are indeed questionable.

Are you using eco mode with coast mode enabled? This decouples the transmission from the motor to allow freewheeling as this woud probably cause a slight clunk when putting your foot down from a coast.

Overall the 8 speed is very fast and fluid.

I agree that generally the gearbox is a good one, smooth most of the time.
When I say coasting, I actually mean that I’m up to speed and I just let my foot off the gas and coast in gear for a while before I then need to accelerate again. It’s then that I sometimes notice the clunk as it tries to find the correct gear...not all the time but more than I would expect. Sometimes, it also does it when I take my foot off the accelerator and it changes down.

You have to keep in mind that in any mode other than Eco with coast enabled the Stinger will not coast like a Toyota Camry.
It will keep downshifting once you lift off the gas which causes a significant braking effect.
It's part of the reason why response is sharp as soon as you touch pedal and re accelerate.

Old thread but mine clunks just as you (Taffy) have described (when not really under load). Doesn't matter which drive mode you in.
Gearbox oil and filter have been changed and its still the same.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
