Hey all, I ran into some issues and I was hoping someone might be able to lend some information if they have had a similar issue. Some context, I recently installed the JB4 and was running Map 1 with stock spark plugs. I ended up stressing out a single coil pack to the point where it needed to be replaced (I’m also at 44k miles and I came to this conclusion because I had it diagnosed at my Kia dealership after getting a check engine light). They recommended changing the single coil pack and all the spark plugs because even though the coil pack was the main issue, they said the spark plug was also under stress and needed to be replaced so they said we should replace all 6 plugs. I ended up replacing all 6 Coil packs first since there was still a bit of life in the spark plugs. Everything seemed to be fine after replacing the coil packs. It’s been about 2 weeks now and I finally got a check engine light again, assuming it was a misfire issue due to the spark plug. I took it to AutoZone to have the issue scanned as a sanity check but it turns out the code I got back was for
P05CC - Cold Start “A” Camshaft Position Timing Performance (Bank 1)
“indicates a fault in the cold Start “A” Camshaft Position Timing Performance (Bank 1) for a predetermined period of time.

Currently My car idles fine and drives fine as well without any noticeable issue since.
So I guess what I’m asking is… did I screw up my transmission lol? Or could this just me related to the spark plugs that need to be swapped out.

I’m confused…how is your transmission the issue here? Camshaft position timing on cold start is related to your engine camshaft (IE: the thing that mechanically controls valve movement in the cylinder head).

I’m no expert on this platform, but from what I’ve seen running the stock spark plugs on OEM gaps even with Map 1 isn’t a smart idea considering the extra boost and fuel the JB4 is adding in to the engine. Ideally you need to be running one step colder plugs with consistent gaps in the .026 to .022 range for optimal ignition (I personally think .022 is overkill but that’s BMS’s recommendation).

My guess is based on the above codes you’re getting, the car is pissed because it isn’t getting optimal spark for the ECU’s timing/load demand. Worst case scenario you’ve got a bad sensor/solenoid that’s on its way out the door and needs to be replaced.

Someone else that’s more versed in this engine can chime in and correct me if I’m wrong but first place I’d start is replacing your plugs with either Denso or HKS as recommended in multiple threads.

Would start by getting correct plugs at correct gap as recommended by BMS, either HKS or Denso. I've tried both and the HKS last longer. I regularly run Map 4 with E45. Highly likely coil packs did not need to be changed. Also, utilize this forum and the good people in it. I think the only reason I've never had a bad stealership experience is because I've never been to the stealership (except for a recall).

Also, make sure JB software/firmware is on latest stable release. Use jb4tech.com for info, troubleshooting, and log review. Also also, I just remembered that after first installing my JB4 and throwing some random code it was recommended to disconnect battery for 20 minutes to clear everything out and start fressh.

Good luck!

yeah I just threw in that transmission comment as a joke. I actually disconnected my JB4 after swapping out the coil packs so prevent any further stress on the packs and spark plugs. Luckily I already have the HKS spark plugs but I was waiting on the weather to get a bit warmer out to install. I hope that fixes the issue though

Yeah I’m definitely going to install the HKS just waiting on the weather to get warmer lol but I guess I’ll have to do it sooner rather than later now. Hopefully it’s just a spark plug issue

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
quick update, I also posted this on a Stinger Facebook group and apparently there are a couple of owners who have experienced the same “issue” and they said it was a result of the cold temperatures.
