A couple weeks ago, the check engine light popped up while I was driving on the highway. I took it to my mechanic as soon as I was able and even though the CEL had gone away, the OBD scan showed a P0325 code for knock sensor system malfunction. A few days later, the light comes back and is joined by a very intermittent low oil pressure light. I pulled over and checked the oil level, which was fine, so I immediately drove it to the dealer for evaluation. Several weeks of diagnostics later, the dealer still isn't certain what exactly is wrong but thinks that the knock sensors and oil pressure sensor should be replaced to the tune of around $3000. I know the oil pressure sensor has acted up for other owners, but the knock sensor is a new problem as far as I can tell. I'm hesitant to shell out thousands of dollars for repair that's not even guaranteed to fix the problem and I'm pretty suspicious about two different sensor systems failing within a week of each other.
My car did have the wiring harness recall done shortly after I bought it, so I'm wondering if there's any chance a damaged harness could be causing these problems. With my recall, the harness wasn't replaced only the pad was installed. The dealer I used was not great so I'm worried they didn't really inspect the harness for damage because they didn't want the extra work of replacing it. Earlier today, I followed the recall directions to inspect the harness for damage but accessibility is so terrible, I couldn't see much.
So, great stingerforum hive mind, I have the following questions:
- Has anyone else had a knock sensor code thrown? If so, what was the fix?
- How can I go about determining if my harness is damaged? Or, how can I even check if the portion of the harness that is at risk due to the recall contains the wires for knock sensors and the oil pressure sensor?
- Why did I buy the first year of Kia's first performance car?
Car Stats:
2018 GT1 AWD
75k miles
Basically no mods (secondary cat delete)
Under powertrain warranty (which doesn't cover any of this)
