How does the catch can cause a boost leak ? Do you have to make sure it’s tight and secure all the time? I keep hearing ppl say this. I thought it was for the overall longevity of the car. Is it good to have if you are not running meth ? Thanks in advance.

Hmm...I never heard that a catch can could cause a boost leak. I would think if everything is tight then the car is A OK.

I'm not running meth. My OCC works great and catches the blow by oil plus the car's oil gets changed every 3k miles. I've always believed that a OCC can't hurt the car (granted it installed properly).

Alot of local ppl around me in the dmv area just had a Dyno day and everyone one of them, besides the ppl who were running meth , removed the catch can because they said it could cause a boost leak. Not sure how this is but just wanted to know some more insight into this. My catch can was installed at my local shop as well so I know it is good but still curious about this . Hope someone can clarify or chime in.

I don't think a catch can would cause a boost leak, but I would say it does add more potential areas that could possibly leak if you don't have everything tightened up or the can isn't sealed well.

That would be my best guess but I'm curious to see what others say as well.

I've heard of people having boost leak back through the catch can into the crank case which is likely a PCV valve issue but I can't see how it could leak through a sealed system ( unless you're running monster boost ).

Some people actually put a check ( one way ) valve between the plenum and can to help prevent this.

The below is just an example and does not suit the hose diameter on the stinger ( which is 1/2" from memory )

Gotcha thanks. I’ll check back with the local guys and girls to gain some clarity on this as I would hate for this to happen to any of us with catch cans since a lot of ppl have them. Rather be safe than sorry.

Um, OK....

But if you have a good catch can, plumbing and a good PVC Valve all correctly installed, where does the boost go?

As for water / meth, well that's another topic all together.

If you have air leaking through the catch can...... PCV.. and if you remove the catch can - you still have the same leak, just no catch can to leak through.

I don't get it
