Sometimes I peek out of the door to check the parking line and if I need to adjust I leave the door open while maneuvering. However, if I also have the seatbelt off while reversing with an open door, the car slams itself in P (park) in the middle of reversing. It's probably some sort of safety measure. My concern is that the car still has some momentum when it goes into park and that's probably not good for the transmission.

Has anyone else experienced this?

It's a safety feature, avoid doing it because yes of course it's not good for your transmission.

Open your door stopped then release the brake and procede still not recommended
To me it creates more of a safety issue than it helps when I'm backing up the car will stop itself if it sees cross traffic even though it's not in my way
, and people look at you like why is he braking

Whatever the engineers or lawyers intended, it's the complete opposite of a safety feature.

leave your seatbelt on when you do that. yes, it is a "safety" feature. it's less intrusive than the one on our honda pilot. that one's nuts.

Look up Anton Yelchin and you'll see why it is the way it is.

I did a rollback the other day. Started the car with the door open and then put it in reverse, no seatbelt, worked fine for the few feet I moved.
