20180123_030543.webp Car and Driver should have compared the G2 to these cars instead of the Stinger base model. Shame Audi lover!20180123_030622.webp Damn liberal magazine. Cancelling my sub tomorrow.

I don't know much about muscle cars but what's muscle-car presence about the Stinger? It's a more European than American car in my opinion.

I’d say it was a European car that took some inspiration from Muscle Cars

LOL! In all reality Car & Audi seemed to do a pretty credible job with this review. They fairly assessed the base 4cyl engines all against one another – That's fair. These are all the base engines with a few goodies on them (such as AWD for each). Now, is the all-summer tire a realistic choice for anyone not living in SoCal or Florida? I don't think so. I like how (can't recall the publication) stripped them off and put on all-seasons and suddenly the Audi didn't perform like it had with summer cheaters if you will.
Overall, for around $9k less than these German rigs, you are getting a great car for the buck. And again, put some tires on the Audi that you can use in most places in the US and presto, Kia an BMW are likely right there with the Audi on the performance side of the coin.
Interestingly enough, the Kia engines are well behind their German counterparts in fuel efficiency. That Audi figure is just impressive, while Kia's numbers only look good to me relative to the last few year's gas prices. Thankfully, with this new admin opening up offshore again, and fracking, and ANWAR and exporting compressed natural gas to Europe and beyond, energy prices are going nowhere for at least the next 4-6 years. Awesome for my wallet and great for economic stability, but I digress.
Ha! I can hear it now "Trump lover!" So I will back off politics, I'm just talking about what's been done to maintain and keep energy prices flat nothing more. Besides, I didn't vote for him, and I wasn't for her either. I wrote in someone, so there we go. ;)

I'm thinking the gas mileage would be greatly impacted by the size and weight of the Stinger vs the other 2 .................and I didnt vote for Trump either ..............

I was thinking about this also. It Kia can pull 250 - 300lbs out of their next gen, tighten up the software and tweak the engine a bit, they can probably pull off off a 22/30mpg rating, up from 19/25 range...

They own a steel company and dont use enough aluminum in these cars .................

You make an excellent point!!!

Perhaps the most astute comment about Hyundai Corp. I've ever heard is "Hyundai is a steel mining operation masquerading as a car company." Now, that isn't entirely accurate, but the two do go hand-in-hand. It appears "some" of their vehicles, specifically the higher-end rigs, are focusing on the car side of the coin, while many of their other vehicles focus on how to move more steel.

Hey, I'm in NorCal and I run summer tires. I just drive something else on that snowy day every other year. People all along the southern edge of the country could probably run summer tires all year long. Anyone without a spare vehicle with AS tires has a good excuse to take the day off.

If they own the steel company, they should be using cro-moly or some other lightweight steel.

In fairness to C&D, there's a sidebar to the test which said they requested all three cars with all season tires but the Audi came with summers. They re-tested the Audi later on all season tires and based on those results the scores for the KIA and BMW increased by three. The Audi still won, just with a slightly lower score.

It's widely acknowledged, and borne out by my personal experience with two Turbo Jettas and a GTI that VW/Audi understates the power of their engines. My wife's POS 200 hp Veloster Turbo would have been spanked hard by the 9 year old Jetta 2.0T she traded in on it.

Finally, there's thread in the B9 Audi section of VW Vortex about the Stinger. While there's the predictable number of haters, the vast majority of the posters acknowledge that KIA has done a hell of a job with the Stinger, particularly in GT trim, and hope that the new kid on the block keeps the other manufacturers on their toes.

C&D put out an article today entitled: Entry-Level Luxury Cars Ranked. The Stinger was ranked # 8 out of 19. It came in ahead of all Lexus, Infinity, and Acura vehicles in the ranking. EXCELLENT first-time attempt in this highly competitive segment!

This is excellent for the Stinger indeed.
Got right in the mist of things. Can't wait to find out how the 2nd gen will do. Kia certainly got the big picture right, just minor tweaking for the next gen.
I gotta say their first pick is such an excellent choice. The Guilia is so beautiful.
