I’m not sure if the title makes sense. Trying to find the best way to word it. If the owner of the car has the controls set to their cellphone, is there any way they can hear a conversation that happens in the car when they aren’t in it?

Weird question, I know. There are just reasons to be suspicious, as the main driver of the car was not even aware they were being tracked as they drove the car.

Edited to add: thank you all for jumping to rude conclusions. I am trying to protect a loved one from abuse. This car was bought without her knowing it was linked to his phone.

Yes, weird, weird question; and here's your weird answer: Welcome to the forum. :D

Do you mean to ask: "if the phone and headunit are linked through Bluetooth will the phone record audio of what is being said in the car? "

I actually think the OP is trying to listen in on the driver of the car, like to see if she's cheating on him or talking to other men in the car.

EDIT: Or the genders could be entirely reversed in this scenario, the more I think about it, lmfao

No.

Actually trying to protect someone from an abusive situation. But thanks for the input.

I have reason to believe a conversation I had with someone in an abusive relationship was heard by the abuser. She did not know he even tracked the car. Wondering if it’s in any way possible that it happened.

Stop Rockin’ the Ganja bro.
I’m trying to protect someone who didn’t know she was being tracked by abuser. I have strong reason to believe a conversation was heard by him. Trying to determine if it’s the car or something else. I’m so glad everyone’s so quick to judge though.

so youre saying Person A owns the stinger. Person B is in danger. Person C is chillin.

Person B and C had a conversation in the stinger alone.

Person A knows specifics of the conversation without being in the car?

If correct; Person B or C told Person X and Person X told Person A I suspect

Unless theres a creep-setting for the stinger i’m not aware of

I can't see how this could happen unless the person with the Bluetooth "connected" phone is in the car or within extremely close proximity.

I find this scenario weird in one of those "it's the internet, you can never believe what anyone says" kind of ways. If this person was concerned, would they not be the one here themselves asking if someone could have listened in on their conversation? You almost imply you are doing this without their knowledge, and I don't know anyone who tries to protect someone from an abuser without telling said victim that there is an abuser trying to victimize them.

This just screams "nunya" scenario to me.

And also, as rude as the conclusions are, there's a reason for them: the answer is "no" for any general expectation of how a car and phone work together as the phone controls what the infotainment system does, not the other way around. COULD someone rig the Stinger as a listening device? Sure, anything's possible: it's 2020 and technology has come a long way. Would someone do that when it's likely easier to just plant a bug in the car? Nope. So IF someone heard this conversation, it's highly unlikely it's from a phone connected to the car via BT, and more likely a bug placed in the vehicle OR the phone was actually IN the car recording the conversation and was later retrieved.

So specific to the situation, and with experience in these matters, it's highly likely the victims phone has had a monitoring app installed. Nothing to do with the car. They are invisible and can be remotely accessed once installed (and even quickly deleted if the perpetrator suspects the victim has figured it out).

This.

The situation you describe is not really feasible or practical, unless the guy left his phone in the car, had it set to auto-answer, and called it from a different phone while muted. You'd be notified a call was ongoing though.

The much more likely scenario is a monitoring app on their phone that either calls him live or records audio and sends it at his request, usually by coded sms. A much easier possibility is a dash cam with mic.

Depending on your state, she or you press charges for eavesdropping, though being in his car, your expectations of privacy are murky, probably not worth it. This is not a situation you want to insert yourself into lightly, but be there for the friend if/ when they need help.
