Hi folks,
Sorry folks; that should read "Buy 2020 Stinger, trade in on 2021?" - I noticed the typo as I clicked submit.

I really want a Stinger GT2, but am torn; if the upgrades to the mid-year refresh and/or if there is a higher performance offering I will want the 2021. I am trying to figure out how whether to get a 2020 to trade in after 6-12 months or to continue to just wait. This would be financed, assuming I can get the 0 to 0.9% APR offer from Kia and roll over into a similar financing on a 2021.

What would be the offer one could expect trading in a 2020 for a 2021? Do Kia dealers do like Subaru dealers and incentivize brand loyalty with a generous trade-in offer on their own brand trade-ins, or do they lowball repeat Kia customers? What are people getting for the GT2 on trade in at Kia dealers now?

I would never take that kind of a depreciation hit. You want to keep a new car at least 4years to smooth out some of the depreciation. In your case I would just wait for the new model year.

Thanks. =)

The wait sucks... I'm lusting after the Stinger (and its tuning potential) almost as much as I lusted after the ZR1. :(

If you must have a Stinger and also must trade it in for a 2021 in a few months you should probably buy a used 18 or 19 GT2 for your 6 month placeholder.

Why is having the latest set of "goodies" such a big deal? Is the current car satisfying? If so, it will still be the same car a year from now and should satisfy. Time is limited, and today is the only day that matters. Enjoy it.

The lack of UVO Link and the open rear diff are huge turnoffs, since I know without any doubt that the back end servers for UVO Link are in place and are actively running both Blue Link and UVO link on Hyundai's lesser vehicles. That they crippled the Stinger in this way annoys the crap out of me. Heck, even Subaru's churched-up econobox (WRX STI) offers vehicle location and remote lock/unlock services over LTE, and the Forester Sport or Touring we might trade our 2016 Forester in on this weekend has that plus remote climate control adjustment, remote start, etc. over LTE.

Kia gimped the Stinger and they position it against the Panamaera, A5, S4, and lower-tier Mercedes AMG offerings... and they left out features the hardware and software and infrastructure are all in place, all for the sake of the lack of a SIM card and activation to enable the feature that is already in the car... and they turn away the recurring revenue for it.

I'd go for a 2020 if I could get Drone Mobile to fully replicate the missing UVO Link functionality, but it can't do it all. :(

If I was planning on getting a 2021 and also wanted a Stinger now, I’d take advantage of the lease buyout option along with the generous cash rebate for a 2019. Right now it’s $12,200 for 24 month/12,000 miles. If you buyout the lease right away, Kia has pretty much eliminated the new car depreciation factor.

MY gosh just wait, there will be somee biggish changes - performing that deal is crazy town. I have done that before and have regretted it tremendously.

How does this work? I don't understand the lease buyout thing.

Read the “lease then buyout” thread that’s a sticky. Plenty of info there. You probably missed the 2019 model year surge but my guess is that in another 5-6 months they will start up again for model year 2020. Maybe sooner if COVID-19 starts to drag the economy down in the US.

Some enterprising dealers (like "mine") are taking the initiative to go the extra mile for potential customers. Here's the text of an email I received on Friday:

Dear Merlin,

All of us here at the Jerry Seiner Group of Dealerships wanted to reach out quickly and let you know we are here to serve you and are taking every measure to keep our guests and employees safe as COVID-19 continues to impact our community.

If you are looking to purchase or lease a vehicle, we would like to reinforce that the health and safety of our community is top of mind. As such, we are available to send our consultants to you for at-home test drives and delivery of your new or used vehicle for your convenience and peace of mind.

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity of assisting you with your automotive needs today, tomorrow and in the future. To read more about the measures we are taking in our dealerships to stay healthy, click here.

Sincerely,
Your Friends at Jerry Seiner

Understood. I'm putting the cash into the market while it's down so I can ride the wave as it recovers. :)

As far as "biggish changes" to the Stinger are concerned, everything is pure speculation right now. Speculated changes include full width LED strip in the rear, widescreen infotainment, and full LCD possibly 3D IP and slightly improved build quality.

Yeah, it's just one of those things you have to accept when buying a car versus leasing. There's always going to be a new model with better this and newer that.

Welcome into the Open. :D (your 1st post).

I am not fond of leasing, because I plan on keeping this car for years. But if I were into cars and replacing them often, then leasing is the way to go (but not the only way to go: my wife's late uncle loved to buy cars that were a couple of years old and still virtually new in condition with low miles, and he'd do this every couple of years or so). When I got this car (my first brand new car), I thought that leasing made sense because of Kia's lease incentive. That, and I imagined that in three years the Stinger might be even that much better, that I'd want the newer model. But then I decided that new features were not going to diminish the enjoyment I am having with this car: it's a keeper. And buying out the lease spared me over $5K in lease rent (the price we pay for the privilege of leasing).
