Button illumination

I noticed last night that the buttons in the roof lining (overhead console) front and rear for the reading lights etc are not illuminated. Is that a fault in my car or is that how it's meant to be?

The buttons do not have back lighting.

And if you press on the light it self on the back part of it, you start/stop the light. (In cane anyone didnt know)
