Hey guys,
2018 GT2 here. Only owned about three months now. Dealer said rotors resurfaced and new brake pads when I bought it but started squeaking so bad recently been driving me crazy. Also first thing in the morning when I back up and stop there is a big clunk sound coming from the front wheels. It's usually on the first couple stops of the day and then it doesn't do it any more. But it sounds like the brake calipers or something down there is going to fall off the vehicle. What does it mean that this only happens first thing after the car has sat a while?
As far as the squeal that also is worse first thing but seems to be pretty constant. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated as this is like nails on a chalkboard for me.

Thanks a bunch!

Jeff

Sounds like improper brake pad install. The clunk noise is the pads moving around, most likely when you go from reverse to drive. the squeal is from not applying something to the backs of the pads to silence them. Cold brakes squeal more than warm ones.

Thanks for the reply! If it were an improper brake pad install wouldn't it do it all the time though. It just does it after the car has sat a while. Once the clunk is done it doesn't do it anymore while you're driving. Also what would you recommend as far as the brake pads. What should be applied to the backs?

Sounds like your vehicle is equipped with aftermarket pads.

Post a picture or 2 here and we can confirm.

The clunk you hear when switching directions is fairly common with somaftermwrket pads, but exceptionally rare with OEM pads.

Same with the squelch/squeal - common with aftermarket pads. Stinger OEM pads have other issues, but not those 2

Thanks, I'll see if I can get some pics. You mentioned Stinger OEM pads have other issues. If you could recommend something which brand would it be for the perfect brake pad for the Stinger?
Thanks for the insight my friend!

There is no perfect..totally depends on what you will do with them, basic street like me, or weekend track days

Kinda late to the party here, hopefully somebody will respond. I just did StopTech pads and rotors and I’m getting a weird thump/click only when switching from Drive and Reverse.

Replacing the pads is about the only "fix" if the sound bothers you. Otherwise, you can just live with it until the pads wear out.

What is the brake pad part number that you are using?

I get that with the factory set up. I just ignore it now lol

Factory brakes clunk? That is not the norm.

But yeah, I too would ignore it of I had the direction change clunk.

Not all aftermarket pads fit as precisely as OEM pads do. You're hearing the pad "click" when you change directions.

Welcome into the open, after all this time.

Yeah just did a lot more re search and I guess it’s normal for aftermarket pads and they are the
Z26-2144? I think. Got them off rock auto
