Any of you guys get a lot of soot on the back of your car?, car is white and drives me nuts. I'm assuming it's from the catless mid pipes and cat back with tips?? Hopefully not a sign of oil burning etc

you mean soot away from the exhaust tips? because yes the soot is rather fast at collecting there, on the bottom edges only, and of course below that on the diffuser. when I picked up my premium 2.0l as the second owner, the entire bottom edge of the exhaust tips and the diffuser below them were coated with black soot. the exhaust tips cleaned up with wet steel wool in a jiffy. and the diffuser polished up easily with meg's rubbing compound.

I get it all over the backside of my car.. made me wonder if it's a sign of a potential issue..

Mainly dust. Nothing that a regular car wash won't remove.

I wipe the exhaust tips nearly every week with a damp paper towel. Easy.

I get them every time I wash my car, which is weekly or more as needed. the original owner probably never touched them, by appearances, but since I took possession the exhaust tips have stayed bright.

I exhaust a ton of black soot… usually after Mexican but sometimes after a high fiber salad.

Throw some beano in the tank before hand to control.
Haha, ya I mean I drive pretty aggressively, I was starting to think I had a prob brewing as it gets all over the back of the car, guessing it's from the missing cats

Would this be a sign of potential burning oil or am I over thinking this

burning oil is always accompanied by smoke, so I am told?
Ya I know, never seen any smoke... Just curious if you other stinger owners with exhaust setups saw more soot

can't be any help answering that. I just know that the stinger with oem exhaust puts out black crap that I clean off even more often than I wash my car, yes, in addition to washing the tips every time, I also do similar to what @killinghall said and spruce up the 'tail feathers' since they get dirty far quicker than the rest of the car does.

So I used to have Ark secondary downpipes + MBRP catback exhaust before and I would notice that after I would floor it or drive spiritedly, the back of my car would have some black soot, other than that it stayed clean. I since installed a Kunstwerk Resonated secondary downpipe + Kunstwerk EVC Catback exhaust and the back of my car doesn’t get dirty at all now even after driving like a mad man and flooring it. From what I recall, MBRP is 2.5” tubing while my Kunstwerk exhaust is 2” tubing. I wonder if that plays a roll in it.

Well at least this seems to be a pretty common yet annoying thing for us guys with aftermarket exhaust.. even stock.. was starting to think I had a issue going on

What fuel do you burn? I’m JB4 tuned ark secondaries paired with mbrp and burn 93 or 94. I get a tiny tiny bit of soot on the inside and outer edge of my tips but really nothing to mention.

Ya I have the same setup as you and usually run 93 or E30.. soot all over the back of my car, especially driving aggressively

I find it odd that the 2.0l is less clean in the soot department than the 3.3l, necessitating more diffuser and tailpipe touchup between washes to get the crud off.

Black soot can be a byproduct of running a fat a/f. Most likely removal of cats and aftermarket tunes will produce more than a stock car but even stock setups will produce soot. I suspect a lot of soot is produced during cold starts when the a/f is temporarilly enriched to act as a choke.

I find that interesting as well as puzzling. Wonder why I don’t seem to get it. Also do an E30 blend in the nicer months.

Running the jb4 with fuel wires is supposed to actually run leaner than stock at heavier throttle, they found that the stock ECU runs richer than it should. Supposedly they get a little more power by leaning it out.

GDI engines produce soot.
However my 3.3 is free of soot on the tail pipes.
