Hi,

I've stock stinger 19
I was wondering when is the best time to shift to the next gear?

and are there any difference between the gears ?(first, second ... )

thank you,

can you tell me exactly which rpm I supposed to shift?

Max torque is between 1300 and 4500 RPM. When I zip away from a traffic light, 1st gear is well above 5000 RPM by the time I shift to 2nd. 2nd to 3rd is just a "torquey". Usually by the time I hit 4th gear I am having to back off to avoid being at extra legal speeds.

The one time I got the chance to move through 1st to 7th (which took me up to 155), I wasn't actually concerned about RPM shift points: I was focused on how fast I was moving. I can tell you that at c. 150, in 7th, RPM are above 5000; iirc, at the point I let off the tach was closer to 6000 than 5000 RPM.

This would be best determined by analysis of dyno runs in each gear. So far, we've not seen anything like that yet. Hoping we will soon.

I usually shift around 6200.

Depends on mods but on a stock Stinger the top end falls off pretty bad after 5k so maybe 5500. With better airflow(intakes, DPs, exhaust) you can hold the gear to about 6k and take advantage of the extra 30-40whp near redline.

Shifting before 6K sometimes causes transmission slip.

I heard this from a couple people too, but only ones that have extra power from chips/tunes. I believe the TCU just doesn’t calculate the shift points correctly with the extra power and gets confused.

I have tried some pulls on Map 0 with no other mod (=> completely stock) and I have seen the problem occurring identically.
Fortunately, I still have the log of when it happened. See for yourself.

I find that shifting at 6k rpm is high enough in the power band.

Well, you'd better shift at 6K, because if you push RPMs much higher, the silly thing will up shift for you; even in manual gate. It won't let you red line.

Actually in Sport mode it will hold the gear and bounce off the rev limiter if you don’t shift it manually, at least with the GT2 shifter.

I've been in sport mode and floored it in 1st and not shifted to 2nd soon enough and had the car "take over". I guess "she" doesn't trust me, after those botched launch controls last summer, when I forgot that I was in manual gate. "They" say that this car learns (I know, theoretically only in Smart mode, but my car acts like she's learning to take care of me). So, when the rev limiter "bounced" it ended up in second gear. Heh.

You have to turn off traction and stability control to hold gears. Hold down the traction control button for about 5 seconds. The screen in the dash will tell you both are off.

I do that. But you could be right: on those later occasions when I raced away from a stop light in manual gate, I might have neglected to turn off traction and stability.

Thanks for the reminder/tip.
