Best gasoline to maximize performance

Hi,

Here's a different question, but something I'm curious about. What are everyone's thoughts on the gasoline they prefer for both performance and MPG? I don't mean Super vs. Regular. But which brand do you find works best in your car (i.e. Chevron, BP, etc)? They all boast that their gas has some special process or additive. But in the end are they all really the same? Or do you notice performance differences based on who's gas you use?

Anything top tier is going to be about the same. In my opinion it's more important to use top tier and high traffic gas stations so the fuel is as fresh as possible

The additives don’t affect performance in real-time. They claim that they can improve reliability which in turn could affect performance down the road.

With a direct inject engine it is less likely that those additives are going to even help your reliability.

With proper additives you will have cleaner fuel injectors, more lubrication on the cylinder, and less chance of water in the fuel that has 10% Ethanol in it. So top tier fuel is very much important

Are any of those things actually ever an issue? I mean is there any real concrete evidence of those things causing an issue specifically in a Kia Stinger or is it just simply this could theoretically happen in some car so we are going to try to eliminate it at all costs?

It is just that things like “cleaner fuel injectors” and “more lubrication on the cylinder” Are so nebulous. They know that no one can really ever prove those things are an issue so they scare you into using much more expensive fuel.

You are the same guy that thinks 87 is the same as 93. Anyway op, bp, chevron, etc. Are all fine choices.

I fill up on either 91 or 93 depending on what is available... I normally go to either BP or Shell or Exxon but have also gone to no-name gas stations when in a pinch... I don't think it really matters as long as you're using 91+ for ideal performance and reliability... just my two cents though...

If you run JB4 you will see in the logs some stations have better fuel. I honestly think some local stations either have a pu
Ps issue or intentionally supply lower than requested grade fuels.

Did you edit/change your entire original post or am I going nuts???

Use whatever fuel you want as long as you follow the owner's manual. Don't be surprised though if performance, MPG, and potentially longevity/reliability go down over time when using a fuel that is under 91 octane.

Ditto the manual: using less than Top Tier premium (91 or higher) may result in a loss of power and MPG. "May". Most discussions on this divide over driver's perceptions. We've even seen claims that using 87 Octane gives them better gas mileage then premium. In Utah, we have 91 and 85. There's no way that I am putting 85 through my engine. Just the thought of lowering my acceleration even a teensy bit keeps me from using "regular" gas. I use Costco religiously. But when I can't get to it, I look for Shell (on road trips).

I only use premium. But was just curious if people thought one brand versus another really made a difference. I think we see the answer.

91 octane (93 is rare in Vegas), use the local Exxon/Chevron chain so it's top tier with techron. But as previously posted, the additives aren't as critical in a direct inject as the biggest problem is carbon buildup from the pistons NOT getting gas directly on them. You could run fuel injector cleaner periodically and get about the same benefits. I'm sticking with top tier to avoid gas quality issues that are more common with cheaper stations.

I have filled up at Costco here and there but only when I go to Costco for giant supply runs. I sound a bit spoiled but I don't like waiting in line to fill up gas. I also normally get gas really early (around 6am) before my commute so normally it's at a local gas station closer to me. Costco gas is an awesome price (duh) and I am sure it's great but I rather pay a bit more for convenience. Nothing wrong with their fuel of course!

I prefer to use everclear. Its expensive but soooo worth it.

I run nothing but TruFuel 4 Cycle from Home Depot in the 3 liter cans. Sure they cost $20 a can and $380 to fill the tank, but there's no expense spared when it comes to Stinger ownership.
