Back on 2/16/21 I started having some hard shifting and high reving when the transmission was supposed to shift to the next gear. This just started happening while I was on my way home from work. I took it to the dealer the next day and told the service guy and a mechanic what was going on. They tried the reset and then went for a test drive. They told me the trany needed to be replaced and it was warrantied. But, this was when KIA's computer system was down so it would be a bit before they could get the go ahead from them to get it replaced.

I am still waiting today. The transmission has been on backorder ever since and they keep changing the date every week. I've talked to KIA and am currently getting all the paperwork together for then to buy back the car under lemon law.

I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with their transmission and/or KIA customer service?

Lol (not an amused lol). Quite a few posts on here about warranty claims being fought/hassled/even denied by Kia. And the reverse: excellent, no issues warranty service: in about equal measures, if you ask me. So, not borrowing trouble, you are experiencing the delays that seem to be unavoidable getting replacement stuff out of S. Korea: especially with everyone laying back and using covid as an excuse. (what a year!)

If you can't wait, and lemon law is your course of action: then of course none of this matters in the least.

Hmmm. My 2021 GT1 has locked up in comfort mode and refuses to shift and will go to redline if I don't intervene. Wonder if mine is bad? Does yours act up regardless of mode?

I traded my 2020 Stinger GT2 about a month ago because it was leaking trans fluid from the bell housing. Only 4500 miles. Car still ran perfect.

But I didn’t want to go through a multi-month ordeal to get it sorted out.

Sorry to say, but the likelyhood of your car getting fixed anytime soon is low. COVID is a bit out of control in most countries outside the US so there are lots of factories shutdown causing supply problems. Heck, KIA called me before my service appointment asking if I wanted to trade because they are having difficulty getting certain trims.

Good luck.

Wow. This is some seriously bad information. Isn't this 8 speed auto used in several Hyundai products including the Genesis models?

This transmission is HKG's inhouse product, and is reputed to be very good. The number of trans failures on the forum is very small. A reflash of yours might slap it awake, or not, depending. Hope it gets sorted for you quickly, that's all.
