Australian exclusive: 2017 Kia Stinger GT

Is USA the only place where they use the next calendar year as the model year? Everything released in 2017 is called a 2018.

Yes, typically 2018 model year is released September or later of the previous year

Jumpy, "[e]verything released in 2017 is called a 2018" is not really true in my experience.

Cars released typically during the first seven or eight months of the calendar year are usually THAT model year. Those released from the Fall through the end of the calendar year tend to be the NEXT model year.

For example, I ordered a 2013 Ford Focus ST in the early summer of 2013, but before it was built the factory switched over to the new model year, so I ended up with a 2014 that I picked up in September 2013. All of the cars built in 2013 BEFORE that switchover, however, were 2013 models.

So it's not a true one-year offset. Rather, the model year switch happens sometime during the calendar year, usually toward the latter part of it. It varies with manufacturer, of course.

In Australia the vehicles are fitted with a compliance plate which , amongst other things , specifies the date of manufacture . You can release 10 new models in one year but they will all be the same year .
Come January 1st 2018 all Stingers fitted with a 2017 plate will be last years model .
It is illegal in Australia to advertise a car for sale using the wrong year. There's always "Plate Sales " in the beginning of the year where manufacturers discount the last years stock.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
