Hey guys!So I recently bought a gt1 stinger (2018) RWD and I bought a borla exhaust and I was thinking of getting some performance upgrades on it and I was looking to push 480hp and I was wondering if it was worth it since some people were telling me pushing that much on a rwd isn’t worth it as it would spin too much. Wondering if anybody was running around this power with a rwd that could offer there opinion!

Why do you want 480 hp (kind of a weird number isn't it)? Do you race the car? Is it just for daily driving? Ultimately, it is you that must decide if its "worth it" to you.

There are lots of cars with RWD and 500+ hp. You are only going to be spinning (I assume you mean the tires) too much if you don't know how to drive.

No doubt you'll have traction issues with that much power, but your rollon acceleration will be greatly improved. You can find ways to help with traction, like wider rear tires, getting better at modulating the throttle etc.

Really it's up to personal preference, if you have to ask a bunch of random people on a forum that tells me you might be questioning the decision. The Stinger has plenty of power in OEM form so you dont really need it, but some people just have to have more power and cant help themselves:

Or if you like to compete at the track it's of course worth it.

Where did 480 come from? Whp? Khp? If you just DD the car, 480 sounds way too much and unreliable, especially with rwd.

Well the package that Burger Tuning offers with just, JB4, intakes, plugs and fuel wires that nets you a pretty reliable 450whp.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I am probably still too new to stinger, so that kind of numbers look realy high to me. Do you know how much more boost comparing to stock jb4 runs?

480 is a pretty random number. In my experience it's never a good idea to just chase an arbitrary HP number. Also, 480 wheel and 480 crank HP are two completely different beasts. It's also probably in the ballpark of what the most heavily modded stock turbo Stingers are making.

As for the spinning tires. You have a 2018 GT1 meaning your car has an open differential. You have basically no hope of traction until you address that. It's a big reason I waited for a 2019. Wider and stickier tires, stiffening up the driveline with bushings or braces will also help you put the power down, along with things like springs or coilovers to help with weight transfer on launch. A lot of people neglect how important suspension plays in traction off the line. However even with all this you will still probably not dead hook on launch with a tuned Stinger, especially on the street but that isn't a bad thing, IMO.

Now...actually making power. It's up to you to decide what is worth it to you. Step one is reading the forums and groups and deciding what you're willing to sacrifice and do with the car to make power. A couple of bolt-ons and a simple piggyback can get you to 400 wheel. 450 will require either getting your octane above 93, going with an ECU tune, and/or going a lot of bolt-ons. Your goal of 480, assuming wheel, is going to require likely full-boltons, WMI and/or a really high ethanol mix, and either squeezing everything you can out of a piggyback like the JB4 or Lap3 Protuner, or an ECU tune that's pushing it. You're getting to the limits of the stock fuel system without WMI or CPI and the turbos don't have much left in them beyond that point...And again, a RWD car has to do things to ensure it can actually put down that power. Can the car take it? So far, maybe. I'm just sticking with bolt-ons and 93 and I'm perfectly happy where this car is, especially for a DD. We can provide information but the decision ultimately is with you.

Depends on the map you want to run, which is mainly determined by what octane of fuel you're willing to run. Map 1/2 are meant to run on pump 91/93 and raise boost up to 5psi over stock peak, using map2, and both taper to some degree near redline. Above map 2 you need to run higher octane either via mixing E85, using an octane booster, or installing a water/methanol injection system which you'll need for the highest maps.

Thanks for clarification. I am not planning on any engine mods at this point. But if i do in the future, it will be just 93 octane tune. But tnan, increasing boost, will decrease turbo life. And replacing those turbos looks like a nightmare job.

Good luck with engine mods. I wish I could do as much, living in California, we are hampered by difficulty finding 93+ octane (99% of stations have only 91 max). If you live in more urban areas, you can find a couple E85 stations, or ones that have racing fuel, but those are disappearing.
Not to mention that many such mods can't be shipped to California unless they are for off highway use only.

No wonder people are leaving CA :sneaky:
