Are 225/235s fine for yearly tracking?

i appreciate the honesty, rare in the world of the internet.

I spoke with the local high performance shop and they said that I could get 245/40R18 97Y just fine on the 8.0 rims. Squared obviously. These sound alot better for track than the 225s and 235s. I know that ideally 18x9.5@255 is the best, but that means buying new enkei rims at that size, and these f*****s are like $250-$350 per rim. I highly doubt im going to notice the difference between 245s and 255s.

as soon as you send me the pics i'll send you the $$ tonight or early tomorrow
Hey,no problem! I will be home soon, so will get you some pictures

Since these are for track-only, just buy a set of Hoosier R7's and be done with it.

You are doing the right thing having a set of street rims/tires and a separate set for the track.

BTW, you won't believe the grip of the Hoosiers.

Holy shit tire rack has then for $400 per tire. Thanks but no thanks, summer tires it is

Yohokma adven v601s are $160, same size.

Understood, but you will burn thru summers twice as quick, and with the associated mounting and balancing twice, the Hoosiers will come out roughly the same, while being a superior tire for the job.

Just something to think about.

Hmm how many full day HPDE sessions will the Hoosiers get me?

Not sure with a 4000 lb car - that's a LOT of weight for both tires and brakes. Our cars for Road America weigh 2800 lbs.

No matter what, summer tires on the track is the wrong tool for the job unless you're doing parade laps at lunch at an event.

Another option is to find the guys who collect used race tires from IMSA, etc. These tires were used for 1 or 2 sessions and are perfectly good and cost $80 per tire - that was a while ago. The trick here is whether they have the proper size.
