Hi,

I have a 2019 Kia Stinger GT2 and I noticed a few days ago a problem with music stopping while my iPhone is connected to CarPlay.

When I go in my car, I plug my iPhone to the USB Port and start playing music. A minute into driving the music stops playing while CarPlay is seemingly still connected (even if it shows it is “playing” in CarPlay). I then remove the lightning cable and plug it back in and everything works again.

At first I thought it was the cable so I bought a new one. However, the same issue still persists. I am not sure if that has anything to do with the weather getting colder in Michigan but I am pretty dumbfounded on why this is happening.

If anyone has a similar issue let me know.

Thanks

a couple times I've had apple carplay completely stop requiring the usb to be replugged. I've also had a few other issues with music streaming services not loading stations and waze freezing up the radio.

It works well enough but it's a bit buggy for sure.

Are you plugging the phone in after starting the car? My Android Auto doesn't work correctly if I plug the phone in before starting the car.

that has only happened to me if i was doing a lot on my phone while connected to carplay.

i just full reset the system and everything works fine after that.

I think I plug it in when my car if off. Then I turn it on. Ill see if changing up my routine helps and report back.

When you say a “full reset” are you saying I need to reset the entertainment system in the car itself or the phone?

Thanks

the car system itself. The little button that you can use a pencil to hit it. Its right by where it says passenger seat belt notification.

I tired doing the reset like you said. It did not solve anything. But I did notice something.

It only disconnects after I back out of my garage, then shift into drive (like 10 seconds after I start driving). If I am just pulling forward (Like at a gas station) the music does not disconnect. Not sure what this means. But I figured this little bit of information may help someone diagnose the issue.

Just out of curiousity,
How are you opening/closing garage?
The homelink on the rear view mirror?
Or a garage door opener?

I am closing it with homelink. But it won’t matter. When I back out of my parking space at work (where there is no garage) same issue. Must be something with the cameras. But this just started up. I had the car for a month and it wasn’t an issue until recently. Changing USB cords does not help. It disconnects and reconnects.

I figured out the issue. It was some sort of compatibility thing with a VPN app I installed. That is why it was disconnecting. Not sure why that was the case but uninstalling that app fixed it.

I also have the Apple CarPlay automatically disconnect from time to time and require unplugging and replugging of the USB cable. It seems to happen randomly even if I am not doing anything else apart from driving. Asked the dealer to take a look at it and they tried to blame the iPhone, which clearly cannot be causing these problems.

Am curious to find out if anybody’s figured out a fix for this.

I have had same issues with my 2018 Base GT & now the new Base 2019 GT … I really wish I can play my Podcasts without any interference from here on in. Seems to want to stop playing when I receive emails to my phone or just randomly, then I have to unplug it and plug it back in "hoping" the Podcasts play back which takes several attempts in doing so. Frustrating, I would love this car even more of the issue was resolved.

Yeah I have same issue with my GT2. My new Dodge with car play doesn’t do this?

I have a little different Apple Carplay issue that I haven't found any info on this or other forums. When I plug in the phone and Carplay launches, the radio stops playing. when I hit the radio button on the dash, it gives a message saying 'this feature isn't available'. I seem to remember being able to use the radio prior to installing the latest ios update on my iPhone8. There's many times when I want to listen to local talk stations or XM and don't want to control the music from my phone.
anyone else experiencing this?

Yup, for me switching to any music player (apple music, pandora, etc) on CarPlay will unlock the radio. Weird, I don’t understand it, but there’s at least a work around.

Thanks for the tip Doel. I'll give that a try.

The issue seems to have worked itself out. I was having a Waze issue with CarPlay, so I updated the Waze app and now both issues are resolved.
