Getting the car ceramic coated and the detailer has found clear film on the front bumper, sideskirts and maybe the rear bumper, so cant apply on those areas. Dealer does'nt know if anything was applied at the factory, so we're rather confused now. Anyone else found such clear film on their cars after collection?

Factory Applied, and seem to be standard.

Pic taken under the front left of the front bumper, seems like some sort of laminate which has been pressed or molded onto the whole bumper section, with certain sections such as the mounting tabs not coated. Sideskirts have the same coating and possibly the rear bumper.

Me too. So now we have plastic coated plastic. WTF? Durability unknown

Would help with stone chips I reckon! Wonder what happened with all the guys who did ceramic coats and clear bras. Paint work would need some prep and cutting to correct before any ceramic or glass sealant goes on.

If the side skirt is plastic with a plastic coating what are these plastic patches good for? Do we really have plastic on plastic on plastic. It's beyond absurd to me. Have they shares in a plastics company?

this is pretty standard on new cars these days. you either get something like this, a clear sticker, or the lower part of the car has extra coats of thicker paint on it. hard to describe, but anyone who has seen it will know exactly what I'm talking about. I know Toyota does the thick paint thing. it almost looks like orange peel it's so thick. personally, I think the sticker looks better and it's replaceable. it makes a laminated surface which is probably better for big rock chips..

Those would be for added protection from debris coming off behind the front wheels, had those on my previous Evo 10 but did little to help as i had 265 tires up front. Had the stickers removed from the Stinger as i'll be installing mud guards/flaps and that should help with stuff flying off the front tires, although debris would come through the side vents.

Agreed - I already have the mudflaps and intend to get the patches removed as no way are they in the firing line with the flaps there. The rear guard higher up sticks out most and is more likely to be a target. The patches look unsightly and constantly attract dirt on the leading edges.

It’s already begun!

I'm confused as to why your detailer can't coat those areas? Coatings will help keep the films cut edge cleaner, ease in cleaning, and help protect against staining from things like bugs, bird poo, tar, and sap.

In the end he did coat those areas, just didn’t want to risk marring when doing paint correction/prep. Turned out great in fact! Sorry was an initial reaction from me due to the confusion back then :p

Anyone have them on the front bumper right where the badge sits?

I do not, only the rear of the rear door area. I also learned the reason; that’s the impact zone of rocks exiting the side vent behind the front wheel. Wow. Learned that at the Salon.

I have the same patches on rear door and fender. Ceramic coater left them as they are the places that get stone damage even if you have mud guards installed. I’d say leave them alone. Better than a respray I say.
