This has happened a few times. The Temp guage goes all the way up, the fan sounds like it going Max speed and the idle-stop-and-go light is blinking amber. As soon as you shut the car off and turn it back on the fan stops and the temp guage is back to normal.

I don't know what conditions cause this to replicate it for the dealership, but I finally had the forethought to film it.

Is this like a fan problem? Thermostat? Coolant issue? Or something else, any help appreciated, will be sending this video to my dealership as well.

Need to hook up a scanner to see what the ECU is thinking.

Check the basics - make sure the coolant level is at the right spot in the bottle, look for coolant leaks. Coolant leaves a white powdery trail when it evaporates.

This is definitely something that needs fixed. Either one of the temp sensors is fubared, or there's a bubble in the coolant passages, or coolant is low, or something similar.

Something minor (at least it isn't an overheating problem!) needs either replacing or "slapping" (reflash?)

i have been experiencing the same issue. mine will try and overheat under any driving conditions. dealership said it was the fan and the fixed that. got about 500 miles and it started doing it again. so i went and replaced the drive belt and did the thermostat myself. jb4 and the temp in the car said it was 245 but when i did a infra red temp gun my upper was 180 and lower was 160 while thermostat housing showed me 170. funny thing my heater only works if i get into the gas also. then stops blow hot when sitting. so i am gonna swap out the temp sensor and see what happens

That sounds like you are low on coolant or have a bubble stuck in the heater core.

Any ideas what the final issue was? Asking for a friend.
