(Anti-Stinger) 2019 Nissan Maxima vs 2019 Volkswagen Arteon Comparison

2019 Nissan Maxima vs 2019 Volkswagen Arteon Comparison
(2019.10.11)

"The FCA (Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist) dinosaurs are loads of fun and the Stinger could be worthwhile if you like taking chances."

It's easy to editorialize without backing up a comment like that.

Here's another problem with his article

"the Stinger’s 2.0-litre turbo is rumoured to be discontinued."

Looking passed that, I like the looks of the Arteon. The interior is really nice and reminds me of the 19 and later A6s. The problem I see is VW's pricing. A fully loaded Arteon is $53k. A Audi A5 Prestige is $51k and the S5 starts at $52k. If I was shopping for a $50k+ German 4 door hatchback there's no way I would pay more for the Arteon over a A5 Prestige or S5 Premium.

I had to read that article more to understand the context of the author's comments. There's a lot of strange assertions made. The article seems arbitrary in its comparison of the Nissan and VW, while still stating that the Avalon is the 'best' in the full-size class without further clarification. Why not make the Avalon one side of the comparison, then?

I had written more, but the whole article is not really worth the effort. I started with Toyota in my new vehicle search (ongoing) but there's too many desirable features missing which are important to me (no AWD V6 sedan chassis in the base Toyota marque; no Android Auto) that I eventually made the leap over to the Korean makes. Even comparing MSRPs for top tier trims across Avalon, Maxima and Arteon, the Stinger GT1/GT2 offers much more value.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

I think I read somewhere that Toyota was going to introduce Android Auto on 2020 model year vehicles.

I read that too, but current 2020s out there don't have that update yet. We'll see. Still, no AWD V6 Toyota sedan platform.
